    Default HW firewall

Hi, I need a VPS for my company. I have some questions. Are your VPS protected by HW firewall? also I can see your VPS is fully managed. So you take care of the security. Is that right?

As we offer fully managed VPSs, we do install software firewall on the server and all the other necessary settings are enabled on the server. VPSs do not support hardware firewall and hence if you need a hardware firewall with the server, you will have to choose a dedicated server. We also offer some addons with the VPSs which can be useful in terms of security. You can get in touch with our Sales department for further information.

Yes, all our servers are fully managed. With VPS we provide Software firewall+ Antivirus for protection. In case, if you need Hardware Firewall you will have to consider a Dedicated Server. With Dedicated Server we do offer Cisco Hardware Firewall.

Basically, a firewall whether its a hardware or software, is a defensive system that lies in between your computer system network and the Internet. The main work of firewall is to prevents any unauthorized use and access to your network.

Having a hardware firewall is very much important as it defends against the most common forms of attacks performed from outside. It has the potentials to protect each and every machine on a local network. For example, a hardware firewall in a broadband router uses a very unique technique known as packet filtering, which basically checks the header of a packet to define its source and destination addresses. The information is then compared with the user-defined rules that determines whether the packet is legitimate or not (i.e. whether it comply with rules or not and should be sent in or thrown out.

A software firewalls is a kind of program which is installed directly on your computer system, just like any other software and can be customized. It protects your computer system from outside attempts trying to gain access to your computer. Some software firewall can also defend you from the most common Trojan programs.

There differences between both hardware and software firewalls are huge, however, installing both software and hardware firewall can offer you a greater level of protection against various types of attacks, Spyware, Malware, viruses, malicious programs & scripts, etc...

So I guess it goes down to how secure you need your server and its information to be. I guess companies will often require both hardware and software firewalls. But it depends on your budget as well .
