Thread: Log Files

    Default Log Files

    Hello

I was just wondering if the log files automatically clear down after a set period of time? or if there is a way of setting how long the logs are kept for. I only have the 200mb disk space plan and the logs use quite a high percentage after a while

Is it ok to simply delete the log files as im ok with doing regular housekeeping as its my responsability - I dont want to ruin the stats page, am I right in thinking if i delete the log files the stats page will just not report back on those dates?

    Cheers,

    Craig

domain logs are rotated every night after stats so you wont need to delete those manually. I would like to know IP address of the server on which your account is hosted as the settings to recycle logs every night may not be there on your server.

    Hi,

Im on IP: 87.117.201.122 - If I look in my logs folder, I have a folder called W3SVC460 and in there is a new log for each day.

    Cheers,

You can delete log files of days which you don't want. That wont make any problem for statistics as the statistics software stores data in separate location once stats are updated every night.

Sorry so if i delete these files, I can still check my stats for those days as they are stored seperatly?

Do these automatically clear down at any point or are they a manual operation? (Dont mind either way )

    Cheers,

    Craig

This logs are automatically recycled on cpanel servers but on windows servers you need to delete them manually. Make sure that you don't delete logs of last 24 hours as the stats are updated from those.

    Excellent thank you

Would it be possible to automate this process? Just thinking once my website hostings get up and running space might be tight, if I go away etc it might fill up! Not a major prob tho

Its better to delete the log files once in a month. They are generated with different names so I wont recommend any kind of scripting or task scheduler too delete those.
