    Default DotNetNuke 5 install

    Hi,

Can DNN5 be added to the list of installable applications on the windows hosting? Or can I upload it to my space using FTP?

Just out of interest, has anyone got any comments on CMS systems? Joomla/DNN/others? Pro's and con's for each...........

    Hi Nick,

    to Eukhost community forums

Installing such applications through the auto-installer feature built-in the control panel isn't recommended as the application packages are quite older compared to the ones available or released from their makers & these repositories can't be updated too (updating them breaks the App <-> CP integration/link)..

One more shortfall of this is that any applications installed using this auto-installer, are placed within a sub-folder [domain.com/app] even though when its intended to be installed in the root of the domain itself [domain.com].

You can download the latest available version of the DNN application from their site [http://www.dotnetnuke.com/] on your local machine, extract the files from the archive, upload the them using FTP to your webspace & proceed with the simple installation from the browser interface..

CMSs or any other applications including Joomla, WordPress, PHPBB, Magento, OSCommerce, etc.. etc.. can be installed in a similar way & that too with their latest available stable versions

Please let us know if you find it difficult or complicated & we'll definitely help you with the installation..

    Default Recommendations?

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for CMS systems?

I've dabbled with DotNetNuke before, is it worthwhile looking at any others?

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hello Nick,

I would recommend trying Drupal too, They have a wide variety of built it tools and some very neat and clean ready to use templates. If you go to their website, you can view screen shots of websites that have been made using Drupal. Every CMS software has their pro's and con's. Some are prone to permissions issues, they require a lot of permissions to be open and thus open up a lot of security issues on the website. Which ever one you choose to develop your websites I would suggest that use one you are comfortable using.

We will definitely help you with any installation requests for your account.

    Hi,

You make it sound so easy.

I'm stuck at the 'configure database connection' stage. DNN setup is asking me to "enter the name or IP address of the computer where the database is located". I've tried the IP address of my hosted account but I keep getting errors. Is there any way I can find the exact IP address of the database I've created from the Plesk control panel?

    Thanks,
    Edward

    Hi Edward,

The IP address is the same as mentioned in your welcome email for ms sql databases, or else you can use "localhost"

If you are facing difficulties while installing DNN, you can contact us on live chat or raise a support ticket,
Or else PM me the domain name, we will install DNN for you.

    Thanks Chris.

Unfortunately the welcome email doesn't mention an IP address for datrabases & localhost didn't work either.

    PM sent.
