Email notification of private messages

On visiting the forum today I discovered a couple of private messages waiting for me but I hadn't received any email notification of them. So I went into the User Control Panel, Edit Options and ticked Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages and pressed Save Changes.
However, checking Edit Options again, the box was unticked. How can I get the box to stay ticked?

Problem solved! It was IE showing the page from its cache instead of refreshing it. The box is ticked
