    Default Wordpress 2.3

    Any plans soon of being able to upgrade to WordPress 2.3 through cPanel (Fantastico)?

    Once it gets listed on netenberg.com/fantastico_scripts.php then it will be available in Fantastico.

    Yeah. but Netenberg is not so fast

    Even cPanel Addon scripts has got Wordpress 2.2.2 so it seems that we need to wait for sometime to have wordpress 2.3

    There is normally a delay between the new version coming out and then being added to fantastico - sometimes this delay can be quite large unfortunately .

    I think best to upgrade yourself, here is a tutorial you will find helpful to upgrade, just remember don't forget to keep backup; bloggerholic.com/wordpress/upgrade-wordpress-56.htm

    For Automatic Update do this way;

    * Backs up the files and makes available a link to download it.
    * Backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
    * Downloads the latest files from wordpress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
    * Puts the website hosting in maintenance mode.
    * De-activates all active plugins.
    * Upgrade wordpress files.
    * Gives you a link that will open in a new window to upgrade installation.
    * Re-activates the plugins .

    Im about 2/3 of the way through building a website hosting based on wordpress with a very complicated theme and heavy use of plugins, to make wordpress function more like a CMS and also appear to have multiple seperate blogs.

    Now Im really scared that if I upgrade the whole thing will break!

    I suppose thats just one of the main problems with using open source software and plugins by third part OS developers. Wordpress itself will upgrade fine, but now Im at the mercy of the plugin dvelopers cos if they decide not to update their plugin quickly then Im up sh1t creek without a paddle!

    If you go ahead with the upgrade make sure you take a copy of your website hosting (public_html folder) and all databases (MySQL).

    Good luck!

    I'm not touching any blog with a new version of Wordpress for now. I tried upgrading a Wordpress blog the other day; the upgrade wouldn't connect to the database or anything; and yes, I did have all the db information set correctly.

    Wish me luck - I'm going in!

    If you are installing for the first time then do it using Fantastico. Fantastico makes things easy for upgrade so in future you wont need to go through hassle of upgrading wordpress manually.

    I've already installed WP 2.2.2 through Fantastico, should I wait until 2.3 is available through Fantastico or go ahead and install it myself as it could be some time before it available?

    My blog may not be online yet but I've spent weeks perfecting the template and plug-ins so I'm worried I'll lose settings if I do it myself. But then again I don't want the worry of an upgrade when things are in full swing.

    stay with 2.2.2 right now. Fantastico should not take more than 1 - 2 weeks to include 2.3 version so its better to wait. You can upgrade to version 2.3 once it is included by fantastico and you wont need to do anything to upgrade besides clicking on "Upgrade Now" from Fantastico.

    I would say stay with 2.2.2 as well. I can't see their being that much of a major enhancement that requires an immidiate upgrade - although I have got to admit I have not stayed up to date with what new / modified things are in 2.3.

    There are of-course good reasons for updating to 2.2.3 - see http://secunia.com/advisories/26771/

    Is there an advisory from Wordpress on what files have changed?

    Check here for the changes in v2.3. Check this link as it gives all the details you'll need plus check the link (on the following page) to the Wordpress upgrade preflight checker......

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Version_2.3

    There's been some changes to the db structure which could have a big impact...

    http://codex.wordpress.org/index.php...3:New_Taxonomy

    Gonna have to take the plunge eventually, I think I should let the client see the website hosting completed before suggesting the upgrade, at least he will know that it DID work before I go and break it!
