CPanel and Ruby On Rails

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the "Load On Boot" option in the cPanel "Ruby On Rails" applet.

I'm running a number of Rails applications on islander and I'm using the cPanel applet to start and stop the apps, switch them between production and development and manage redirection. All of which works fine.

But there is also a "Load on Boot" option which does not seem to work.

After the recent restarts on islander my Rails applications did not restart, even though the Load On Boot option was set. I had to restart the applications manually after noticing that the sites were down.

Any advice would be welcome.

I would request you to check the mongrel.log for that application where you can find the exact reason for the failures.

Everything looks normal in mongrel.log. There is an error message in one applications log file but I think it is quite old and not related to recent reboots.. Unfortunately nothing in there is date stamped so I can't say if any of the log file entries correspond with the recent reboots on islander.

If it happends again I'll remember to check the date on mongrel.log before restarting the application manually.

But I get the feeling it is not even trying to start it.

Hello Noel,

There was a bug with cpanel ruby installation where "/usr/local/cpanel/bin/ror_setup" was not called when Ruby was installed, thus the Ruby startup init scripts was never put in system bootup process.

I have corrected it on one of our shared server running with ROR.

If you could provide me with your domain name I will verify it on the server on which your account is setup.

ummm. so deserve appreciation for helping cPanel improve their ROR support.
