Default my website went down when deleting a file

    Hi,
I tried to delete a recent back-up in file manager (after I had downloaded it to my machine) but it did not seem to do anything.
The disc space did not go down.

I phoned up eukhost and they adviced me to delete public-html-BACK (or similar) and then my entire website went down - I had deleted everything. (advice of the techician!) It took them hours to get it up again.

Can anyone tell me how delete the back-up safely.

(I am non-techy - please plain english and step by step as I am still learning)

We, at EUKhost never advice any kind of incorrect or insufficient information to our clients neither on phone nor through an email/live chats.

Kindly note that it was not advised to remove the public_html folder. To free up the disk space of your account, it has been advised you on phone that you first have to download the data on your PC and then remove the public_html_back or public_html-BACK/ and/or likewise.

However, we've somehow managed to get your website up active and live again.

I'd like to suggest you in future, you should re-confirm [either on phone or Live chat or through an email support] with us for such tasks if in case you're not able to understood what exactly you've been asked for/advised for.
    Regards,
    Victor,

    Hi Victor,
thanks for your reply and sorry you seem to be upset that I am criticising eukhost.

What I did and was adviced to do is exactly what you wrote:

I downloaded the back-up and then I removed the public_html-BACK - and the website went BOOM - everything was gone.

I did not make a mistake because I was not alone and my colleague saw that I did exactly that and did not accidentally remove the public_html.

I phoned again and the technician than acknowledged that it was a mistake by the first technician. But he could not explain what to do in future . This is why I have come here because I am really scared that this could happen again.

If you and someone else can expalin to me what to do in future I would be very grateful.
    thansk
