For those who have used Paypal and Google Checkout, I was wondering how they compared and why you switched. Would you recommend one over the other for an affiliate or a merchant?

Paypal. Been around longer, owned by eBay and therefore integrates seamlessly with it. Easy to use, safe etc.
Although considering the horror stories I don't think I'd be happy to leave money sitting around in my Paypal account for long.......![]()

I choose Paypal too. A lot of people are familiar and comfortable with it. If I saw that I had to use Google checkout to purchase something, I would probably think twice about doing it just because I have never used it before and don't know much about it.
I've heard of people losing money with both Google Checkout and Paypal. With either Paypal or Google Checkout, I believe that they hold a percentage of what you earn until a certain amount of time passes to allow for chargebacks. They may both do that, but I've read that one of them does though I don't remember which one. Once it is in your account, it's probably not a good idea to let it sit there too long.
Having Paypal instead of Google Checkout will probably increase your sales. More people have accounts with Paypal and, therefore, it's easy for them to use. You need to consider the amount of your transactions and what you'll pay for fees based on percentage of the sale.
I vote for PayPal too. I believe that Google Checkout is good and reliable, considering that it is owned by Google, but I think PayPal is much more widely acceptable than GC.
I've been using paypal payment, google checkout seems to just come out, have not tried, but technology alone, google, should still be good, to pay market diversification intensified competition always benefits the user
Pricing structures of Google Checkout and PayPal are approximately the same. Both Google Checkout and PayPal are well-renowned in providing easy and cheap gateway for paying/receiving payments globally.
At the moment, PayPal has an advantage of been longer in this field and so it is widely accepted across the globe in comparison to the rivals.

Don't ever let other people's thoughts, feelings, perceptions and/or opinions drown over yours. You know yourself the best. Go with what you think is right. Everyone else's opinions or statements about you or others are secondary.
It won't surprise anyone if we conclude that Google checkout and other payment modes wants a big slice of PayPal's cake.![]()
