I think Zencart is easy to integrate and customize however to make a shopping cart search engine friendly you will need to find the Search Engine Optimization component available in the cart and optimize it and also do some cleaning work in coding. You should also develop keyword rich and Search Engine-friendly-Easy accessible content to make the cart Search Engine friendly.

From the usability point of view, I would recommend Zen cart. It comes pre-installed with a whole bunch of addons which you would have to install yourself in OScommerce and there are hundreds more available on the Zen Cart website.

    Thumbs up

    I'd vote for Zencart

The lack of a plug-in system in osCommerce makes add-ons difficult, since each add-on modifies the core application, making it really difficult for devs to modify the system as required. While Zencart allows easy modifications in the system without affecting it as whole, making it more favorable for the devs..

From the hosting point of view, osCommerce websites are seen to be more vulnerable to hackers than Zencart ones. Security vulnerabilities, including SQL injection via unchecked PHP code and loosing file or directory permissions that are required for functionality are common issue with osCommerce.

From Search Engine Optimization point of view, both of these applications boast SEO friendly characteristics. As Paul said earlier, "to make a shopping cart search engine friendly you will need to find the Search Engine Optimization component available in the cart and optimize it and also do some cleaning work in coding. You should also develop keyword rich and Search Engine-friendly-Easy accessible content to make the cart Search Engine friendly."

But why you want to switch over from OSC to Zencart, any specific reason? I personally recommended Zencart for first time users though.

well...it's based on oscommerce i'm already familiar with - so it's going to be pretty easy to get used to. But it's more advanced than oscommerce though, has more extended functiponality.

I am on oscommerce fan, and have heavily modified some solutions.

Saying that i am looking to integrate my hosting so people can select which group of products they want pre installing and I cant find the information anywhere to modify this.

Basically i need the different options to use a different image set and a different database set.

Want to do this autmatically, at the point of order rather than to send 5-10 minutes installing manually every time.

If anyone can help with this please let me know, I am struggling like mad to get to where i want to be and whilst I dont like giving up but sometimes you have to say when your beat.

    Thanks

    Wayne
