    Default Website Ranking

A website hosting can be hosted on any type of server. Does this make any difference in the ranking of the web site?

I don't think that will make any differences on ranking of your website hosting, on the contrary you will get more new visitors from local search.

I also don't think hosting on any type of server can make a big difference in website hosting's ranking.

Some of the factors does make good/bad impact in major way, to mention some...

Title Tag, Anchor Text of Links, Keyword Use in Document Text, Accessibility of Document, Links to Document from Web site hosting -Internal Pages, Primary Subject Matter of Site, External Links to Linking Pages, Link Popularity of Web site hosting in Topical Community, Global Link Popularity of Site, Keyword Spamming.

    Default Location of the Server

The location of the server is a significant factor while considering the website hosting’s ranking in a search engine’s regional results. A UK company with a UK customer base must ensure that its website hosting is optimized to get higher ranking in the search engine’s UK results.

To get included in Google’s UK results, a website hosting must be hosted on a server situated in the UK or must have a domain name that includes the country classifier, for example .co.uk, .org.uk etc. If you have both then you will get an additional ranking boost in Google’s UK results.

sanderson, are you talking about shifting to another server or moving to different domain name? If it is for moving to different domain name the 301 permanent redirect is a recommended way to come out from those problem.

If your website hosting is hosted on a server with website hostings who have been penalized on account of spamming, it can have an effect on your site's rankings too.

The location of the server is also an important factor in calculation of rankings. For local searches, the server location and ccTLD are both important, so if you are targeting UK you should ideally use a .co.uk or .com and a UK-based host to gain high rankings.

As far my knowledge no SE look at the nameserver locations in order to geo-target as nameservers are by design meant to be geographically diverse for redundancy. Btw if your server is located in US your host can provide you dedicated UK IP. Nothing to worry.

No Paul, I was just answering the question raised by Martin...
Does this make any difference in the ranking of the web site?
And I think the discussion is about page rank and server location, nothing more than that.

And the solution suggested by you is perfect, if someone has already registered then there is no need to relocate just for the page ranking.

It wont make the slightest bit of difference really. You just want to find a reliable one that doesn't go down all the time and one that has good customer service. Also, if you are targeting traffic from the US then it makes sense to go with a US host.

I'm not quite sure I follow. Unless your trying to say that traffic and ranking are mutually beneficial?

Uptime of site influences ... rankings .....
And server location influence local rankings ...
So hosting can influence rankings as other many factors

If your website is hosted on a shared server then because of malfunctions performed by your neighbours, your server may go slow and according to google's new ranking policy page load speed will be the important factor while ranking a website.

The thing I care the most when it comes to hosting is speed as a search engine will be checking it.

It can have some effects but links are definitely more important. For example, having links from co.uk domains pointing at your website is more important than merely shifting your hosting account.
