Default Big THANKYOU to eUKHost staff

I've recently setup a new semi-dedicated Windows server and just wanted to say THANKYOU to all the eUKHost staff involved.

I wanted quite a specific setup (definately not a cookie cutter solution that most hosting companies provide) and all of my requests have been dealt with quickly ... even when I managed to kill the server on the first weekend ... along with all the software that had been setup ... the data centre people rebuilt quickly and efficiently!

I have a Linux VPS Hosting with another hosting co. (haven't moved because of the hassle of migrating DBs and mail accounts for the 17 sites on it) ... I've just been told that it is impossible for them to setup an rDNS PTR even though this has caused spam cannibal to blacklist the server - definately no spam coming from the server and the hosting co. say:

"The issue of mail from Virtual Private Servers being marked as SPAM is a known issue.
This is due to any reverse DNS lookups being made will show what appears to be a dynamic IP address even though the address is static.

Due to the nature and the way the VPS Hosting platforms are constructed there is little that can be done.

If you require a full reverse DNS lookup you will need to upgrade to a Dedicated Server."

... it's a known issue, a simple solution but they won't do anything about it ... hmmm I'm beginning to think that the inconvenience of moving my clients to a new eUKhost VPS Hosting is being outweighed by the lack of support from what is supposedly one of the larges hosting cos in the UK (mind you all the big ones say that!!)

... follow up from my prevous post I've got a final reply from the 'other' hosting company:

    Dear Paul,

Thank you for your email dated the 29th April 2008.

Unfortunately a PTR record is something that is not provided with out VPS Hosting servers, however other hosting companies may provide a different service.

I hope this provides you with the information you require.

if anyone else is looking for hosting check you have the facility to set up an rDNS PTR record - if not avoid like the plague!!

    Thumbs up

    Hello Paul,

    Thank you for the appreciation.

I am really amazed from the reply that you have received from the "other" hosting company. I do not think there is any need of a dedicated server for an Internet Protocol to have a name. As you can always have a rDNS setup for any IP that has been added on the network.

They either do not understand networking or are just not interested in supporting their clients..

Thank you once again for praising eUKHost and I assure you that we will go beyond anyone's limit to keep our clients happy.

    Hiya Paul,

It is great to hear of your positive experiences with our services Certainly increases staff morale, thank you.

I don't really want to comment on the other hosting company lol but it seems pushing customers away as they are certainly doing is not at all practical business sense it seems there lack of experience has clearly been displayed.

We value your customer and promise to provide you with the level of expertise you certainly deserve from a hosting service.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards

I can thoroughly recommend moving your Linux VPS Hosting to eUKHost because that is what I did a couple of months ago. There was no hassle with moving all my website hosting and accounts because eUKHost did it all for me - virtually nothing for me to do In addition they also set up rDNS for me so that email would be accepted from the VPS Hosting, which just shows that the other company are talking ********.

There's no downside to moving at all; if there are any glitches or teething problems you know eUKHost will sort them.

    Hi Steve,

I am seriously considering it!... the actual migration isn't a big issue - set up a few MYSQL DBs, email accounts and upload the sites.

The hassle is to my clients who will invariably lose some email during the migration and I went through a similar exercise to move to a more modern VPS Hosting 2-3 months ago ... don't really want to do it all again for a while ...

    ... although ...

Do you have WHM/CPanel on the current VPS Hosting? Because if so, there's no need to do any setup of DBs, email accounts or uploading the sites. WHM will copy everything including DBs and emails to the new server. The only risk that I can see of losing emails is during the few hours the DNS takes to change but I'm sure that eUKHost can advise about this.

If you don't currently have WHM then I can also recommend it if you do move - it makes life so much easier.

EukHost should be able to minamise downtime as they have a way of creating your account here and then just simply swap over the dns when needed.
