    Post Tips for colocation Hosting

    Hello,

If you own a server and want to connect to the Internet, there are companies that will handle the connection for you. This service is known as colocation. Companies that want to have complete control over their server configuration often choose the colocation route. The difference between a colocated server and a dedicated server is that in a dedicated environment the web hosting.

Before deciding if colocation is right for you, there are several factors to consider. First, you must look carefully at the fee structure. Colocation, unlike dedicated servers, requires payment of both rental and connection fees. You will pay a rental fee for the physical space your server will occupy at the host company.

Colocation providers base connection charges on averages instead of the total number of gigabytes transferred during the month. The first is to divide the amount of bandwidth used by the number of seconds in the month. The second method looks at the 95th percentile. To determine transfers using this method, bandwidth is measured every five minutes. At the end of the month, the highest five percent of the readings are dropped.

    Thanks

Another main advantage of colocation server hosting is that the provider will have a more secure location for your and others' servers than you might have in your home or your office, and it is in their interest to protect their investments. You might have security of your own at your home or office, but the security at the business address of the server colocation provider is nearly always better.

There are a few places that I have checked out but the colocation prices are just nutty. Maybe you could do a write up on why some are so pricy to give others an idea of how to go about finding the right colocation for them.

Server colocation solves website problems related to power outages.

Power outages cause a significant number of problems for businesses of all kinds. One of the worst problems that businesses face today during a power outage is that the company’s website goes down. If your company has a heavily visited website which you rely on to meet the needs of your customers then you need to make sure that your website doesn’t go down when the power in your area goes out. This is an increasingly important issue for businesses because of the increased electricity demands that are being placed on existing power grids (the result of which is an increase in the frequency of power outages). Server colocation is probably the best solution to this problem for most companies.

The first thing that you must understand is that power outages are increasing in frequency and duration across many different regions. There are a lot of different things that can cause a power outage (such as natural disasters that damage power lines) but the most common cause of a power outage today is that the electricity mains are overloaded. This happens when too many people are trying to utilize too much power on an electricity grid at the same time. The grid can’t handle the overload of activity so it shuts down. With more people utilizing personal computers and other electronic devices than ever before, demands on the electricity grids are very high. This demand is increased whenever a major change happens in an area such as a new construction project that adds a significant amount of housing to an area’s electricity grid at one time.

What does this mean for your business?

It means that you are facing a situation in which there is a relatively good chance that you may have to deal with the ramifications of power outages on an increasingly frequent basis. You can imagine how many problems this might cause, especially if you operate a retail store or an office space where electricity is necessary to stay in operation. Many companies have purchased generators and worked out backup plans for how to deal with power outages if they do occur. However, some of those companies haven’t solved the very important issue of what to do if the power outage affects their computer servers.

A company’s website is more important than ever today. Many businesses find that even a few hours of website downtime can cause significant profit losses for their businesses. Multiply that loss across multiple power outages and you will find that you simply can’t afford to have your website shut down to due to energy shortages in your area. Chances are that if you have a large website then you probably don’t have the backup energy capacity to keep it running throughout the duration of a power outage. That’s why it’s smart to consider server colocation as an option for protecting your website in case of power outages.

This term refers to the option of storing your website information on a server that is located at a site other than the physical site of your business. You store your server in a location that is designed specifically for server storage. A company like this has a lot of backup power plans put into place to make sure that the servers keep operating properly even if the area that they are located in suffers a power outage (or a series of outages). Even if your physical storefront or office space experiences downtime because of a power outage, your website will remain in operation. This means that your marketing and e-commerce activities don’t go down even in a power outage which means that you reduce your power outage worries and diminish the losses that a power outage may cause for your company.

    Ken.

The cost of colocation depends on the amount of space your server occupies.

Data centers house servers in racks that in turn are housed in cabinets. Cabinets are usually 40 rack units in height, with each rack unit equal to 1.75′. The cases of server computers are measured in rack heights – 1U = 1.75′.

Typical sizes for servers are 1U, 2U and 4U, so the physical size of your server will determine how much the colocation host will charge per month. Bandwidth is another factor affecting price.

    Hello Friends.........

A colocation hosting facility is where a web server is housed, along with the resources to keep the server up and running. Between the amount of power web servers require and the difficulty of an individual business to take care of all levels of redundancy, many businesses are turning to colocation servers to manage their web server needs.

The tricky part is choosing between the multitude of colocation hosts out there. After all, moving your company’s website from server to server isn’t an easy task. So it’s natural that you only want to do it once and get your web server colocation right the first time.

    Thanks
