    Default 301 redirect questions

    Hi,

I hope someone with more knowledge than me can answer these questions!

I have a couple of domains doing nothing at the moment, both have quite a few backlinks and some Page Ranking. My question is - if I set up 301 redirects on both domain1.com and domain2.com, both pointing at mymainsite.com, would google then treat these two domains' backlinks as backlinks for mymainsite.com, thereby improving my SERP?

Similarly, would domain1.com and domain2.com's PR be passed to mymainsite.com, increasing the PR of my main site?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

    Hi,

I don't think simply redirecting them will increase your page rank or give you a boost elsewhere. To be honest, google might even punish you for such an obvious attempt

You would be better off installing blogs onto both and then putting a keyword link to the domain you want to boost that way.
    Kind Regards,

The code "301" is referred to as a permanent redirection of webpage URL's.It is considered to be the best method for preserving your current search engine rankings when redirecting web pages or a website. But this is usually done when you have redesigned few of your web-pages for your site and those pages have high search engine rankings which you do not intend to lose. So inorder to redirect web site traffic safely from
the old pages to the new pages without losing your rankings most webmasters would set a 301 redirect.
Though not sure how the page ranks and backlinks for domain1.com and domain2.com would affect the mymainsite.com, but I think that the backlinks for those would not be considered for the mymainsite.com.

Similarly, would domain1.com and domain2.com's Page Ranking be passed to mymainsite.com, increasing the Page Ranking of my main site?
    Nope, I don't think so.
