    Question Auto renewal of domains

I was checking through my domains and noticed that the auto renewal flag had somehow become the opposite of how I'd initially set it up, so that domains I set to disable auto renew were now showing up with auto renew enabled (even expired domains!) and vice-versa.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

I changed the settings for all domains to their original state, but I'm now worried that this may be a mixup in the client area code, especially as I've since received a domain renewal notice for one of the domains with auto renewal enabled, stating that it will expire if I don't renew it!

It's strange. Have you report it to your registrar? I have never experienced this myself. I always disable the auto renewal feature for all my domains. I prefer to renew them manually.

As per my opinion, if the domains are set on auto-renew at the registrar then the domains will surely get auto-renewed even if client doesn't pay for the renewal. But, if the auto-renew is enabled only under client area then client will definitely receive the domain renewal notifications from the registrar and the domain service provider.

You always need to make sure that your payment method is up to date. If your credit card number is changed or something changes with your Paypal, don't forget to update the information with your registrar.

I like to stay way ahead when renewing my domain names. It's a good idea to keep it set up on auto renewal as a backup, but manually renew well ahead of time. I don't like to take any changes with my domain names!

One cannot/shouldn't be so casual about renewing a domain before the expiry date. A domain is something that refers your website into which you've added efforts, it is an identity and failure to renew it in time tends to loose everything. Inorder to avoid such instances setting the domain in an Auto Renew mode should help you retain the domain with you.

I don't take any chances with my domain names either. The best way is to renew for several years at a time and there's no problem with renewing them a few months early.

Everyone should keep a master list on paper of all their domains with expiration dates. I keep a list in a notebook just in case something was amiss with the domain name manager

If you have a number of domains, it's important that you keep an excel sheet or some other document and store all the data in the sheet to avoid any problems. You can mention the domain, the domain registrar, date of registration, expiry date and the hosting provider hosting the domain (if multiple) so that you can manage the domains properly and renew or make any changes whenever required.

Never came across this situation. Which registrar are you using? It would be best to contact the support team and let them know about this issue.
