Thread: ? DNS Error

    Default ? DNS Error

Ok I know thers probably 100's of reasons for getting DNS errors.
But one of the complaints I had with my other server, and one of the reasons I signed up for this one is I kept getting this mesage.

    Unable to display page

It has not been possible to display the page you requested for the following reason:
DNS Error. The website you requested could not be found. Please check the website address http://www.nwbikersforum.co.uk/ you have entered and retry the request.
Contact your system administrator if you continue to experience difficulties.
I was hoping running my site from a new server would solve the problem, (I didnt get much help from the old server admin, he just kept saying it's because my domain name is propergating, but even I knoe it dosent take 3 months to porpergate)

an how I just got the mesage again whilst trying to access my site now it's on my new VPS.

So I woundering is it posable it's somthing to do with the domain registra?
i.e. I've set my name server in the control panel of 123-reg to point at eukhost and untill now it's worked fine.
Do you think and is it posable theres a problem on there end?
Is it posable to transfer my domain names (I have lots) to a new registra?

Would that solve my problem? It's the only thing I can think of that I havent change since my migration to eukhost.

I have just done a check on your DNS on http://www.intodns.com/
    Direct Link: http://www.intodns.com/nwbikersforum.co.uk

Possible DNS problems, that should be fixed ASAP

At a guess I would say the problem is the DNS Zone on the server where your website is.

Your domain name is set at the register (123-reg) to use nameservers ns4262.ukvpshosting.com & ns4263.ukvpshosting.com I presume this is right, if it is it seems to be, the DNS Zone on the server where you website is.

    Missing nameservers reported by parent
FAIL: The following nameservers are listed at your nameservers as nameservers for your domain, but are not listed at the parent nameservers (see RFC2181 5.4.1). You need to make sure that these nameservers are working. If they are not working ok, you may have problems!
    ns2034.ukvpshosting.com
    ns2035.ukvpshosting.com
Missing nameservers reported by your nameservers
ERROR: One or more of the nameservers listed at the parent servers are not listed as NS records at your nameservers. The problem NS records are:
    ns4263.ukvpshosting.com
    ns4262.ukvpshosting.com
This is listed as an ERROR because there are some cases where nasty problems can occur (if the TTLs vary from the NS records at the root servers and the NS records point to your own domain, for example).
    Stealth NS records sent
    Stealth NS records were sent:
    ns2034.ukvpshosting.com
    ns2035.ukvpshosting.com
I recommend you contact Support, with the direct link I put above.
If you are not able to fix the problem.
    Regards,

OK I submitted a ticket yesterday afternoon and they fixed most of the problems for my 10 minuets later.
There's still a few lil things highlighted but I'm hoping the main ones have been sorted.

Thanks again for all your help guys.

    Hi,

I just noticed you don't have a Reverse DNS, this can affect email been received.
I think Hotmail, AOL and others check to see if you have reverse dns, and if you don't they may reject the email.

This is something Support has to do.

The yellow highlighted bits are just warnings so nothing to worry about.

    O dear
    Ok thanks for that info.

Question, If I have a few parked domains redirecting to my main domain do I have to go through all that same stuff again to set DNS stuff up corectly? or does it just apply to the main VPS part of the server?

    Hi,

Normally once the VPS or Dedicated Server DNS is setup correctly, it should be straight forward and be carried on to each other domain added, however if other parked domains was setup before the server DNS was corrected, they may need correcting.

I would suggest you check each domain at http://www.intodns.com/ to make sure the DNS is all setup correct for each domain.

What I normally look for on http://www.intodns.com/ are red highlighted parts, these should be fixed ASAP.

The Yellow highlight are normally only warnings.

The reverse DNS, should be a one off thing, it has always been for me when I setup a VPS or Dedicated Server. Just as a note: I understand reverse DNS can take up to 48/72 hours, before it is fully setup.
    Regards,
