Domain Transfer Basics?

I want to ask a basic question. I have hosting with IX Web Hosting for years and I have recently bought few domains on GoDaddy. So I need to host those on my host. Since I never did a domain transfer here is the question:

Since domain is bought on GoDaddy, after I point and host it on IX Web Hosting, will I still do renewal at the place where I bought the domain (GoDaddy)?

If you have just pointed the nameservers to IX Hosting then it is obvious that you pay the renewal charges to GoDaddy as it is registered with them. If you have transferred the domain to IX Hosting then you will be paying the renewal charges to them and not to GoDaddy. Please feel free to post, if you need any clarifications.

As I understand that you have newly registered the domain names. According to domain transfer policy the newly registered domains cannot be transferred until they are atleast 60 days Old. You can check the whois records for the domains and keep the record of the renewal date or set them to automatic renewal at the Registrar, so you are out of the danger to loose your domain.

EUKHOST does provide you the feature for automatic domain renewal.

If you keep the domain name with GoDaddy and point and host it on IX Web Hosting, you will need to renew the domain name with GoDaddy. Other option is to transfer the domain name to your web hosting provider (If they have an option to do so and the domain is more than 60 days old.) This way, you domain name and hosting plan renewal would be at one place.

Thank you guys, I guess I was mixing up the transfer and pointing. I definitely want to buy domains from GoDaddy because they are very cheap 5-8$ (depending on the promotional codes) and I want to point and host them on IX Web Hosting because they have options that are way better for my situation than GoDaddy.

I have a hosting with IX Web Hosting and although their hosting is pretty much OK domain prices are ridiculously high (20$)! At GoDaddy you can buy it for three times less or even four sometimes.

In this case, I would suggest you to point the nameservers to IX Hosting and keep the domain registered with GoDaddy only.

Hi !

This is a genuinely confusing question faced by many.
I agree with Merrick above.
But i think godaddy allows domain transfer only in asia region and yes you would have to get renewal done from godaddy.

Just to throw my 2p in.

If you decide not to register your domain via eUKhost or GoDaddy then 123-Reg also seems quite good. I've not had a bad experience with them in the past.

When it comes to registering domains, I think it is better to register domains with your hosting provider itself as it allows you to manage your hosting services and domains very well.

Also, if you register domains with the hosting provider itself, the hosting company will update the nameservers of the domains and you won't have to contact another company for this purpose.

This is a fair point to make Adrian - it does indeed make it easier in many circumstances

Guys, i have heard that transferring a domain name can affect your website's SEO . Is it really true or just a myth?

If you mean transferring domain registry then it will not affect your website ranking, it's for sure but if are planning to change domain hosting provider then it may affect your ranking depending where the new servers are located

If its just the name than I don't think so. However if its where it (the website) is hosted then thats a different matter.

If you are asking about changing the domain name registrar where your domain name is hosted then the answer is No. However, if you change your hosting provider where your domain name is hosted, you might notice some difference in the search engine rankings.

IX Webhosting was suck and their technical support staff was idiot as well.
What web hosting that can not allow you to have high traffic?Their not allow.Because your website will be easily db overload like my web directory.....
