I don't think it will be direct competition to .com. I don't think anything will ever be strong enough to challenge that but I do think that there will be some interesting and high value domains that can be gained from the .gwTLD .

Hehe, As I have said I don't believe it has any chance of beating .com - nor does anything else in my opinion.

Yes, the default behavouir - especially with non technical people is to append .com to everything. This is why its essential to get the .com name as well as any other local or different TLDs you get to save you losing potential business and visitors.

I don't think it has the potential to compete directly with .com. Having said that just found this interesting piece of info ".gw is the topleveldomain for Guinea-Bissau". For those who have never heard of Guinea-Bissau, The Republic of Guinea-Bissau is a country on the Atlantic coast of western Africa.
