Is it worth it to purchase the .net, .biz, .info, and others along with the .com domain name? Also, can you set those other domains to automatically redirect people to the .com site?

Depends on your goals. If you want to build a solid brand over time you would likely want to protect the names by buying additional TLDs with that name.
It is possible to redirect them. This is a good way to catch additional traffic to your site.
Since domain registration fees nowadays are quite affordable, I think it is worth registering your domain name with .net, .biz, .info extensions besides .com. You can set 301 redirects from these domains to your main .com domain.

I have bought all biggest TLDs for my business: .com .net .org .info .biz and my national domain .rs. I sleep more peacefully at night.![]()
I have a .org for my personal use (its the only thing that was left, I guess I had a popular name), but for work wise I have both .com and .net since it seems to get the name out there a little more, every little bit counts right?
It is also a good option to register country TLD's to target the local market in order to increase sales etc. For example, if you have your business all over the world but you would like to get more traffic and sales from the UK as you are targeting the UK, you can register a .com domain and a .co.uk domain name which will give you good benefit.
Yes I also do have my country's TLD. But this brings me to one question. I know many people that use country specific Google search. Does that mean that your site if it has that country's TLD, will then have supremacy in Google over .com or other global TLDs?
Sorry to interupt guys but what does TLD's stand for?
Top Level Domains:
.com (for commercial entities),
.net (for network operations & ISPs),
.org (for non-profit organizations),
.edu (for 4-year educational institutions),
.gov (for non-military, federal government instititutions),
.mil (for military organizations).
There are also TLDs for each individual country.
As Google is making it's search results localized to make it more specific for users, it is noticed that country TLD's have a benefit over global domainsHowever, if your website does not have good content and it does not provide information required by the user (which is determined by the keywords which are used by the user to search in search engines
), your website will not get good rankings even if your domain has country TLD

True and that is why so many people are pushing for relevant content, the last thing anyone wants is to find a site that should fit with what they search for then if they by chance to find it, its nothing like what they needed.
if available? always get the .com domain,,,no one ever rememebrs a .org or .net lol
but a .com sticks in your mind,,,,as they been around for a long time and are more commonly used!
.com domains are certainly preferred over other TLD's, however, apart from the TLD of the domain, the main domain name is also important. It is recommended that you keep the domain short, simple and related to the niche of your website so that visitors remember your domain name easily.
Generally you'll have good chance to find the available domain name for other tlds too that you register for .com but in my opinion country specific tlds worth more.
