Default Antivirus Software on Windows VPS

All I can seem to find on these forums and from speaking to technical support is that AV SW is not supported on a VPS and that I should run cureit.exe to scan for viruses. Surely this can't be the case, with websites that people are to submit files to, this just isn't sufficient protection. What are other Windows VPS users doing for antivirus software?
    Thanks

    Thumbs up Hello

    Hello,

We have already installed Antivirus on our hardware nodes recommended by swsoft engineers, and scheduled scanning on every weekend.

If you wish, you can search and install antivirus your own on your VPS. Very few of our customers installed any antivirus on their VPSes.

For mail scanning you can purchase Dr. Web antivirus.

    Best Regards,

We won't be using email through the vps, we just want antivirus for files.
When you say "have already installed Antivirus on our hardware nodes recommended by swsoft engineers, and scheduled scanning on every weekend" I was told that these scans only scan system files and not all files on the VPS, so isn't of much use to us really.
Is there any restriction on me installing an antivirus software on my VPS?
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hello,

There is no such restriction to install Antivirus on a VPS but SW-Soft doesn't recommend installing any AV on a VPS. You can install any anti virus on your VPS but make sure the Antivirus is compatible to work in a Virtual Environment.

    Hi,

I use ClamWin on my VPS fine, and it works fine with the Plesk control panel if you're using this.

Cheers Flesso, I am using the Plesk control panel. I believe ClamWin has no realtime scanner, is that right? Do you simply have it scheduled to scan your system daily?

ClamWin can be configured very dynamically. You can schedule it to do scans when you want and then have the results of these scans automatically emailed to you. It has full integration with the Plesk control panel and can also be used for the scanning of ingoing and outgoing email.

Thanks again. I'm pretty new to Plesk, how do you integrate ClamWin into it?

All you need to do is install ClamWin and then login to Plesk and then go to the Components Manager. From there just refresh the list and click on the option for Antivirus and click the radio button for ClamWin.

ClamWin is pretty good for what it is, but isn't a realtime scanner, which is what we need really as people will be uploading files to our site. Are there any issues with me installing McAfee Antivirus?

IMO, you can use McAfee with your Windows VPS but according to SWsoft its recommended for a hardware node not for individual VPS rather you can try ESET NOD32 Antivirus which seems to be a better option and is widely used with Windows VPS.
