    Default EMail Issues

    Hi All,

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.

For the last few days I have been getting blacklisted from my own server. About 2 days ago Outlook, which is used to check email on one of the domains, started to kick up a fuss. It would not recognise any password as being correct, despite I reset the password.

The server then rightly blocked me from after having had so many attempts to login. The logs show "(smtpauth) login failures from." I am 99% sure this is from Outlook.

First problem, I was blocked from my own server, so couldn't WHM / SSH in to de-blacklist myself. Had to WAIT for a support guy to do that. I then reset the Outlook account to match the settings given on cPanel (note they had not been changed from when they were working to when they stopped).

Guess what, same problem, email not accepted, so many atempts, locked out again. As a tempory meassure I have set-up GMail to grab and send (with SMTP) emails from the various accounts and it works like a charm, so I know it is not the servers, or thats how it appears to me.

The problem is I can't understand what is going on with Outlook. No updtes have been isntalled that I can see, no settings changed, no other software installed, etc.

    So couple of questions:

    1. Any suggestion on what could be causing this?
    2. Is there anyway, in the logs, to identify the program making the SMTP ?

    Cheers,
    Nick

    Hello Nick,

I shall suggest you to reset the password for the email account from the Cpanel, and use the same password to login to the outlook as well.

This will surely solve the problem. I shall suggest you to give it a try, And if this doesn't work then i will surely fix this for you.

Give this a try and let me know or you can visit me through the live chat support.

    Regards,

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. As I said in my original post, although maybe not clearly, and in my online chats, I have already done that. One of the first things I did was to reset the password. Let me give you a step by step of what I have done, starting from when the problem started:

    1. Opened Outlook and got a "please enter password (think it was for SMTP - POP was fine)
    2. Entered password
    3. Back to step 1.
    4. Logged into cPanel and reset password.
    5. Checked apssword worked by loging into webmail via cpanel
    6. Entered password into Outlook (copy and paste so no typos)
    7. Same problem, wont accept password.
    8. Checked all settings against cPanel. Note no settings had been changed since it was working last.

    9. To double check, set-up GMail to get pop email from the accounts and send using servers SMTP with same password.
10 GMAil works like a charm.
11 Checked all settings on outlook again.
    12 Entered password,
13 same problem, wont accept password.

I am going to leave this for tonight and come back to it in the morning. I ahve already deleted the accounts on Outlook and recreated them but no go. Will try again in the morning. Then may go to last resort and remove outlook and reinstall.

Just getting to me. I am sure it is Outlook as if I can use GMail and webmail (squirrel), can't see what else it can be. But having said that, can't see why Outlook would cause the problem.

It is frustrating that I keep getting locked out of my own server whilst trying to sort this out, but at the same time I do not want to weaken my firewall.

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. Again that was one of the first things I did, and again as I said in both of my previous posts I ahve already checked multiple times that the settings are correct. This is what I am finding puzzling. I know the settings are correct as they were never changed from when they were working. But in any case as I said before, I have checked the settings, I ahve deleted the account on outlook and recreated it, but still the same problem.

I just don't see what the problem is. Next step later today is to uninstall office and reinstall.

    Nick

    Hello Nick,

I have tried to locate your account in our records, but having no luck with it, seems that you have registered on forum with a different email address.

Can you please PM me your server login details, so that I can investigate on this issue and provide you the full details.

I will do so, just waiting until I can reinstall outlook just to be 100% sure it is not that causing the problem.

    Cheers,

I am also agree with the answered given here. Reinstallation of outlook application and then creating a new profile will solve the issue
