    Default Monitoring service alerts

I have subscribed to the monitoring service that eUKHost provides at watch.eukhost.com. I find it very useful, however this evening for the last couple of hours it has been telling me that mySQL is offline, with a popup window and a bleep every 2 minutes.

I have checked with the support team and mySQL is in fact operating normally, and I agree that everything seems to be OK.

So my question is, why does the monitoring service keep giving me apparently false alerts?

    Hi Steven,

Please ignore those false positives alarms thrown by the monitoring system; it was a brief network lookup issue, causing them to send the emails. We’re still investigating into this & will furnish any piece of information we obtain from the data center. Please feel free to get back to us through if you continue to receive such emails from our monitoring service.

Funnily enough I'm not getting any emails about it. It's just that when I go to the monitoring service page there's a red symbol for mySQL and every 2 minutes a warning pop-up. It's still happening now but I am happy to wait for your investigations to complete.

    Hello Steve,

It seems the CSF firewall on your server was recently enabled. The Mysql port wasn't in the allowed list of incoming TCP ports and hence the monitoring system wasn't able to connect to the Mysql service.

BTW, your mail server was rejecting the emails from the monitoring server since the rDNS for the server IP was missing. You should now receive the alert emails since the issue has been corrected.

Thanks for sorting that out; I'm pleased that I reported it. I can confirm that I have received a test email from the monitoring service.

I wonder why the CSF firewall was only recently enabled (which is why I am only now receiving reports from it)? I hope it wasn't previously disabled.

    Thumbs up Hello

    Hello,

We install CSF firewall while creating VPSes. Default CSF configuration allows any number of connections from all IP addresses. We don't strictly configures CSF firewall while creating VPS because, it depends on customer's requirements.

your monitoring account will be approved within 24 hours and we will add your Server in our monitoring system. You can login tomorrow and setup email notification from the front-end of your monitoring account.

Thanks -looking forward to having a look at it. I find current monitoring services are unreliable, with many false positives.
