    Default mysterious forwarders appeared

Has anyone heard of a cPanel bug that creates email forwarders?

Three of our upper management email addresses suddenly had forwarders created for them, that forwarded a copy of all their incoming email to the cPanel's default user email account.

Stranger than that, I had renamed the default user some months ago, and the forwarders were sending mail to the old default user account, rather than the new one.

No-one in our company seems to know anything about it. One of the email addresses had an auto-responder created for it the previous day, but the other two email accounts haven't had any changes made to them.

Anyone got a guess as to what might be going on?

    Thumbs up

    Hello.

We haven't noticed any cPanel bug that creates email forwarders automatically. Also we
didn't face any issue due to Cpanel updates which resulted misconfiguration in cPanel's default email account or the forwarders settings.

Could you please elaborate as how did you rename the default user ?
Default user (system account) can only be changed if the cPanel account is renamed.
Default address (system account) , or "catch-all," gets all unrouted emails if have set forwarder from the cpanel >> Set Default Address option.

I'm still not sure as how email forwarders have appeared on your account without any user interaction. Please send a support request so that
our administrator will check your server settings and investigate issue further.

If its happening due to Cpanel configuration or scripts then we will forward this case to Cp engineers if any
