    Default RAS and RDP

    One more quick question!

    I see that you provide Complete RDP Access with Windows VPS. What is the difference between Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop?

    Hi,

    Even though they have similar names, Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance are used for different things.

    Remote Desktop is getting used to access one computer from another remotely.

    For example, you can use Remote Desktop to connect to your work computer from home. You will have access to all of your programs, files, and network resources, as if you were sitting in front of your computer at work. While you are connected, the remote computer screen will appear to be blank to anyone at the remote location who sees it.

    Remote Assistance is getting used to give or receive assistance remotely.

    For example, a friend or a technical support person can access your computer to help you with a computer problem or show you how to do something. You can help someone else the same way. In either case, both you and the other person see the same computer screen. If you decide to share control of your computer with your helper, you will both be able to control the mouse pointer.

    Remote Assistance - To give or receive assistance remotely.

    Remote Desktop
    - To access one computer from another remotely.

    Remote Assistance uses Windows XP/2003 Terminal Services to share a desktop and other resources between two computers. Although this is the same underlying code used in the Remote Desktop feature, Remote Assistance is different from Remote Desktop in two ways. Firstly, in a Remote Assistance session, both users must be present at their respective computers and must agree to establish the connection. Secondly, you can use Remote Assistance to connect to a PC running Windows XP Home Edition, however incoming Remote Desktop connections can only be enabled on Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003.

    Thank you Scott and Ryan!
    Quick and wonderful answers. I wonder if RDP access to my VPS is disabled or simply I'm not able to access VPS remotely then how can I overcome the problem?

    RDP access is a standard feature on all our Windows VPS plans, Semi Dedicated Server and Dedicated Servers. RDP access is disabled on our shared hosting and reseller hosting servers only. In case you are having difficulties accessing your VPS remotely, you can get in touch with our VPS Support team anytime via our 24x7 Helpdesk, Live Chat or Phone.

    Thank you Ryan will do.

    Apart from handling the machine remotely, what are the additional features of RDP Access with the VPS?

    Remote Desktop for Administration provides full administration functionality to you as the remote administrator. You can manage complete server administration tasks live permission change, adding new directories, install new DLLs, third party applications, install DNS, IIS, MS SQL, ASP.NET etc. Remote Desktop for Administration is the equivalent to working directly at the remote system's console.

    Thumbs up Hello

    Hello,

    Remote Desktop Control displays the screen of another computer (via Internet or local area network) on your own screen. The program allows you to use your mouse and keyboard to control the other computer remotely. It means that you can work on a remote computer, as if you were sitting in front of it, regardless of distance between computers.

    When you are in the office or on a business trip, sometimes you may need to do something on your home computer: for example, view your electricity bill or read your email. Sometimes you may get sick and won't be able to leave your apartment, however the deadline is close and you need to finish the project, or die trying. Driving through the city to get access to your work PC when you have a high fever is not a really good idea.

    Remote Desktop solution allows you to:

    * Display the remote computer screen on your screen in real-time.
    * Use own keyboard and mouse to control the remote PC.
    * Perform some operations remotely, such as: shutdown, reboot, etc.
    * Supports multiple connections at the same time.
    * Different display modes: "windowed", "full screen", and "scaled".
    * File transfer between local and remote computers
    * Remote power management (remote shutdown, reboot, logoff, etc.)
    * Strong connection security.
    * Runs as a service on the NT systems.
    * Works through the firewalls and supports DHCP.
    * Supports high screen resolutions and color depths.
    * Uses a log file to log the events and solve connection problems.
    * Challenge-response authentication.
    * IP-Filtering.
    * Windows NT security.
    * Master Key feature.
    * Control inhibition.
    * Logging ability.
    * From RDP you can install any third party applications or windows services.

    Remote Desktop Control has unique ability to transfer files between your local and controlled remotely computers. Built in file transfer feature helps you to share programs, photos, music and other data easily. You also can use drag and drop to transfer files between computers.

    Remote Desktop Control has strong security and encryption features. Nobody will be able to intercept data or get any unauthorized control of your computer. The software uses strong and industrially trusted program-defense algorithms, such as RSA320, GOST256, MD5, and others.

    If you are looking to manage server yourself and want to install custom scripts/applications, want to test few softwares then you should have Administrative RDP access to your server. Most webhost do offer you Root/RDP access with their servers as a standard feature.
