    Default Remote backups - 0 Bytes

    If you experience the following when using remote backup...

    ftp logs in, creates the backup filename.tar.gz in the eg cpbackup/weekly folder but the filesize is 0 bytes... error in logfile will show :-

    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x9b5401c): Timeout at /scripts/cpbackup line 787
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x9b5401c)>>> QUIT
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x9b5401c): Timeout at /scripts/cpbackup line 788

    Cpanel forums have a few experiencing this, users advise increasing the FTP timeout in /etc/pure-ftpd.conf , this didn`t work.... we also regressed cpanel to the last stable version rather than a release version... this also fails to fix the problem.

    A backup was then forced with the CSF firewall disabled, the backups ran fine..... last thing I thought of was firewall as the backup files were being created so thought access was fine.... seems not

    Thought would share incase anyone else experiences it...

    Thank you for sharing the experience with us, will surely be of much help for our trouble shooting
    Also, I'd advise opening a passive port range in the CSF config, just in case the data isn't being transferred after a successful connection..

    I had this problem too with nightly backups. Since they were automated, disabling the firewall wasn't a solution that I could use. However, thanks to support the problem is now solved.

    As it's the firewall that's causing the problem, passive mode is required. This can be enabled in WHM's Configure Backup.

    Exactly Steve, specifying the passive ports from WHM & having them opened in the firewall will lead to a successful backup
