    Question Separate version of Python

Has anyone tried installing a separate version of Python than the one available on a CentOS based VPS? The installed version is 2.3.4. I would like to set up the latest version of Trac, but that requires a minimum of 2.4 (current version of Python 2 is 2.7).

Just wondered if anyone has any success in running 2 separate Python versions. I am aware that various things in the OS (and maybe Cpanel/WHM) may depend on the installed version of Python, so I would like to leave that alone.

    **update**
Should have mentioned that the version of CentOS on my VPS is 4.9

    Cheers,
    Jason.

    Thumbs up

    Hi Jason.

You server has Python version 2.4.3 not 2.3.4
As the Trac is supported on 2.4, you can install it.

Even it's possible to upgrade python manually, we do not recommend it. There could be compatibility issues with the YUM and Cpanel.
You can refer the following threads from Cpanel forum :

    upgrade python on whm?

Let me know if you have any doubt or question in this regards.

    Hi Kieran,

Just seconds before you posted this I discovered that 2.4.3 is installed, and I had misread the version number !! I'd just finished compiling 2.7 and installing using altinstall too.

Oh well, that will teach me to pay closer attention.

    Cheers,
    Jason.
