Silly situation

Hello support team,

I'm one of your customer with a VPS hosting. I asked today your support team to restore all of my web content of my domains, as none of them is working. I had the answer that all the available backup for these are corrupted data. As a matter of fact, all my web content are not available for a restore and the data are getting lost.

This situation is getting silly, as I never imagined that Eukhost is not able to backup data for more than a week?

I have checked the backup for your VPS and its not corrupted.
Admin was unable to restore the data for your VPS from the backup server because the backup has been over written on the backup server on "Sun Apr 3 at 04:28:51 BST 2011".
The backup server was having the same data which you have on your VPS.
All Nodes are having incremental backup and it run on weekly basis [Mostly configured on "Saturday / Sunday"].
Due to the incremental backup we are unable to provide the old data, as its overwritten by the new backup on weekly basis.

Thanks, can you please explain to me why all the data of the web content have been wiped out? All the mentioned websites were working by the beginning of the week, then nothing during the weekend.
All the files have been deleted only the folders structure still there, is this a common problem? is this configuration mismatch?

We have checked on your vps, the data is not wiped out. All the files are there at the location that you have provided.

Please let us know if we are missing something here.

Thats interesting I also have VPS and had an unexplained loss of data from several sites I host and an email account disappeared? None of the sites were wiped out completely, but approx 5 days worth of data. I too was unable to get my data back from restore as it had backed up after the problem. The most worrying thing is that it could happen again and everyone would have to rebuild content again, and again. Really wanted an explanation.

Did you contact the support? what they said? Is it Joomla and WP based content?

When I contacted them they told me that they cannot understand what happened and that I'm the only one having such problems, and that is it possible that me or somebody else accessed the account and removed the data? In other words, it is my fault.

Yes spent almost 2 days with support, tickets and live chat. My content loss was across 5 Wordpress sites. Which followed a spam attack on my server a few days earlier.
Never got a conclusion or explanation just increased security with new root pw, cpanel and ftp passwords all round. My worry is that it could happen again because we have not identified a cause. Looks like we are not alone. My clients are busy rebuilding content. How embarrassing is that!!

As a side issue this is my second year with EUK Host the first was totally uneventful with no issues at all. I had notification of a server migration towards the end of 2010 and have spent more time on the line to support since then than I dare disclose. Somethings gone backwards......
