    Default VPS migration

    Hi All

I'm on a semi dedicated Linux VPS running Centos and Apache v 1.3.41.

I have a couple of similar but related questions for the EUK guys on the forum.

    1. can I migrate my existing semi dedicated box to one running Apache 2
    2. Can I choose which OS is installed, e.g. Red Hat Linux

Or am I doomed to sit on a CentOs Apache V 1 box until I decide to go for a dedicated box.

    Hi Craig,

We can upgrade Apache on your existing semi-dedicated server with downtime of few minutes only. There is no need to migrate your semi-dedicated server only for Apache version.

We can provide you with RHEL semi-dedicated server, but there's absolutely no difference in CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.

Just received a couple of calls from clients saying that there apps now don't work. After 20 minutes trying to figure out why I've just realised that I'm now on Apache 2.

So much for the standard support line of "We do not alter clients servers without their consent". At what stage did I authorise an upgrade.

I take this stuff seriously and if I was going to do an upgrade would do it progressively and in a tested way, not just do an upgrade and hope for the best.

Thanks as lot, I was wary of your support earlier but now I have zero confidence in it. Very very worrying.

    Thumbs up Hello

    Hi Craig,

We have checked all your old tickets and chats to verify if you have asked for apache upgrade or PHP recompile or if you have faced some other issues which require apache upgrade for resolution.

On 24th Feb, you had asked us to install few modules and Jeet N did run easyapache script but he did not upgrade the apache version. In fact, he got some errors so he forwarded the issue to cPanel engineers. You can find information on this in your tickets MWY-62021-206 and DKS-19408-740.

cPanel engineers were working on your issue from 24th Feb to 27th Feb. They installed apache modules like mod_proxy.c, mod_proxy_connect.c, mod_proxy_ftp.c, mod_proxy_http.c, mod_proxy_ajp.c, mod_proxy_balancer.c to get subversion working on your VPS.

You may check following command outputs, to check apache-php recompile on 27th Feb
    ----------------
    [root@server ~]# cd /usr/local/apache/conf
    [root@server conf]# ll | grep httpd.conf.bak
    -rw------- 1 root root 13754 Feb 27 15:09 httpd.conf.bak

    [root@server ~]# php -v | grep built
    PHP 5.2.8 (cli) (built: Feb 27 2009 15:08:52)
    ----------------

As we stated earlier, we have not changed anything on your VPS without your consent. cPanel engineers did the apache upgrade and other required changes.

So let me get this correct. I asked support if they could install mod_dav to allow me to run SVN.

I was advised that this could not be done without my specific consent as they were not supported by Cpanel.

In the circumstances I chose not to do it.

And somehow or other I end up with Apache 2.

Is that seriously what you are indicating ???

    Hello Craig,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. As your issue was forwarded to cPanel Engineers to check the installation problems of mod_dav, mod_dav_svn mod_authz_svn modules, the First Line Engineers declined to provide support on it saying it was something not officially supported by cPanel. They later on forwarded the same to their Second Line Engineers, who promptly checked the issue and completed this support request for us and made the unsupported module available with cPanel. This upgraded Apache version is a result of this module availability which wasnt available in the earlier/old version. Apache2 is far better in supporting additional modules as well as in terms of security. If you'd like to downgrade the Apache version from 2 to 1.3, it can be done quickly by replying to the support ticket open with our VPS-Support Dept.
