    Default E3-1230 vs X3430 (SAS)

Hi, I'm looking at getting one of these servers as an additional server for our expanding hosting company.
I was looking at the X3430 SAS but in my research all benchmark tests are showing the E3 series MUCH higher as it's a much newer processor.

Can anyone offer any advice? What benefits are SAS? I've asked this question to my "account manager" but never get an answer so I gave up.

It seems to me the E3-1230 is the better purchase even though it's "behind" the X3430 on the dedicated server page.

Truly appreciate any advice anyone offers!
    Thanks

Glad to know that you wish to purchase one more server from us

SAS drives have faster read/write speed compared to SATA drives. Read/Write speed of SAS drives provided with E3-1230 are 15k rpm whereas the speed of SATA drives are 7.2k rpm. So SAS drives will process a query faster compared to SATA drives. We can provide you with SAS drives on E3-1230 as well. Price and base configuration of E3-1230 SAS will be the same as X3430 SAS.

CPU Speed of E3-1230 is 3.2 GHz whereas CPU Speed of X3430 is 2.4 GHz. E3-1230 can be customized to a greater extent compared to X3430. If you are looking at individual resources, then the RAM on E3-1230 can be customized upto 16 GB whereas X3430 can be customized upto 8 GB. So E3-1230 would be a better option keeping your future needs in mind as you can just upgrade the RAM rather than upgrading onto a new server.

Please let me know if you are interested in E3-1230 SAS, so that I can provide you with the order link of that server.

Hi Rossie, thanks for your great info, if you could send me a link for a SAS E3 that would be excellent.
I'll then keep it for when we sign up, it may not be for a few weeks as we are currently taking over another hosts customers so need to see how many additional funds we can raise from that.

Apologies, they are in MaidenHead. MK does not provide E3's.

Not too sure why you are insisting for servers housed in Maidenhead datacenter when both the locations have similar connectivity. It won't make any difference in the server performance no matter whether they are located in Maidenhead or Milton Keynes.

Personal reasons, which I don't wish to drag up again.
But since you ask, I've received brilliant service since I took the 5400 in MK 2 years ago. Prior to this I was on VPS/Semi-ded and experienced problems (in Maidenhead)
All new VPS, Cloud, etc are in MK.

You're probably right, it usually makes no difference, but it does to me.

Hi, we have been discussing this upgrade and have not yet reached a decision.

I have a couple of questions...

Since 2009 has Maidenhead been upgraded to the same level as MK?
What is EUKhosts reasons for choosing MK for all new cloud, VPS etc? (Probably the same as my reasons for wanting MK?)

Hopefully you don;t think I'm being picky, I just want to make the right decision if I'm spending another £179/month, which initially is quite a hit from our profits until we start to fill the server.

    Thanks

    Hi Ben,

That's probably my mistake I received a message and answered it privately.

In the interest of clarity though, we usually decide a servers location by their power requirement. In Maidenhead we can't get as much power to a rack as we can in Milton Keynes. This makes Maidenhead better suited for lower powered servers and Milton Keynes better suited for higher powered server. Of course, Milton Keynes is also a tier 4 location, so it is the best choice for mission critical needs.

The E3 is located in Maidenhead as it is a low powered server.

I hope this clarifies for everyone.
    Kind Regards,
    John - Managing Director
