Thread: IP addresses

  1. #1

    Default IP addresses

I host websites that are all pretty much in the same sector and area of the country. I'm slowly taking over the hosting of more websites in this sector, which already link to one another.

What I want to know is, when a site owner asks me to do their hosting, is this going to reduce the effect of the links on their site to other sites that I host already, due to their site moving to the same IP addresses?

Is it worth splitting the sites between the two ip addresses you get with EUKHOST to try to make them link to sites on the other IP as much as possible?

Or does this sort of thing really not make a blind bit of difference!!

Any opinions - or does anyone actually know?

    Hi Paul,

I personally never managed to find any evidence for problems due to such same IP website linking with each other, but many SEO companies contact us asking for websites spread on multiple Class C subnets. We provide them with shared hosting on more than 50 different Class C subnets which is what they want.

You are most welcome to follow them as it helps us to sale more packages, but you need to do the research on your own to find out if google has something similar in their Algorithm to reduce ranking of websites which link to each other from same class C subnet.

THanks for that. I don't think I'm ready to go as far as buying more hosting accounts to get IPs in different C blocks

I get two IPs (admittedly consecutive) with the account I have with you now, and I was just wondering whether people thought it was worth trying to split the sites that have links to each other between them. These are genuine relevant links. Or is it not really worth the trouble!

As long as you don't do internal linking excessively and you have backlinks from other websites as well, you should be fine.

If you are still skeptical about it though, you can go ahead and use the two IPs you have.
