Does not allow to SSH to the server if VNC connection isn't established

Im not a skill server admin as you guys first of all, therefore might be going wrong somewhere. Recently, I've set-up an Ubuntu 10.10 (32bit) server on a VPS. With assistance from the Ubuntu installer I added OpenSSH.
Im not able to locate the exact coz I cannot SSH to the box unless I first open a TightVNC connection through admin console. The moment an attempt to VNC to the box is made I can SSH directly to the box (ie. using PuTTY). Once doen, it doesn't matter even if I close TightVNC, I can still continue to use the open SSH connection and create new sessions.

How do I fix this problem?

Well, to be frank, I am not too sure why you are using VNC to connect to the server as it's not considered to be secured and it does not have a very great functionality. For this reason, I would suggest you to use X-forwarding instead of VNC.
