Default Being Firewalled from my own websites - support totally unhelpful

I've been emailling support about this but thet aren't reading what I'm saying and their answers vary between useless and repeating the same (unhelpful) advice.

Before I waste a tonne of time moving my sites to somewhere which might let me access them from time to time, I thought I'd open a discussion here rather than just getting knee-jerk copy/paste answers from people who aren't reading what I'm writing.

Problem: For some reason my IP address is repeatedly being added to the firewall resulting in my being unable to access any of my own sites.

I suspect this relates to an automatic backup I run which runs 4 times a day downloading updated files (Guestbooks, News Scripts etc.) - it's Linux-based and uses wget via passive FTP

It's been running for 3-4 months without a problem but recently I've noticed it having issues which coincides with my being unable to access my sites from that point onwards too.

I've variously been told it's a problem with my firewall or anti-virus and to disable those (erm - no) - that it's a problem with my FTP client (erm - tested that - no) and that the firewalling is temporary (and yet until Tech Support resets it I can't access anything).

It seems to me that you've changed something in your firewall which my wget/ftp job is upsetting - but that it didn't upset back in Aug/Sep/Oct at least. I don't think FTPing into my sites 4 times a day checking for updates is an onerous or complex task anyway and can't imagine why it should cause an issue!?!?

p.s. I suspect the problem started when the clocks changed - is there a timing issue in your firewall software which is seeing more activity than it should perhaps?

p.p.s I assume you run your servers at GMT and don't actually adjust daylight time on them??

I've just retested the script and as soon as the wget/ftp connects and downloads about 7Mb of data, it's disconnected/unable to re-access the server...

I've tried with active and passive ftp (the only options you have in wget) and the result is the same.

So - over to you I'm afraid, nothing else I can do here - all I ask is the ability to ftp a copy of my site/check for updates - not a big request but right now your firewall isn't playing along...

p.s. My ISP does not offer/support static-IP but I do use DynDNS (router supported) - could you not add my DynDNS name as an exception to the firewall??

Thanks for that - I've replied with the details to the Support Request - asking whoever reads it to forward it to you Alex!

We'll see if that sorts it later on
