Question Changed nameservers on 123 domain to EUK but still not working?

    Hi folks,

Yesterday afternoon I logged into a clients 123 Reg account and adjusted the nameservers there to that of the EUK ones here which are :-

    ns25.eukdns.com
    ns26.eukdns.com

An hour or so later I went into my EUK cPanel and added the domain as an "Addon Domain" as usual. The domain appeared in my Addon domain list and everything appeared to be working fine. I can see it and its folder in my File manager and FTP list ( Using Filezilla ).

The client has an old 3 page website on that domain. This morning I uploaded using FTP, her newly redesigned website. However upon checking the url, the old website is still showing.

Now, I would normally just give it a good few more hours for the nameserver changes to propagate but after checking the WHOIS on DNS Stuff, it is showing the EUK nameservers are present?.

Couple of other minor things that are "throwing" me off track :-

The clients domain is registered with 123 Reg but in her control panel on 123 Reg, I cannot see any website files. The control panel doesn't appear to have a file manager option and if I click on "Manage Webhosting" it says "You appear to have no web hosting - click here to purchase some".

Secondly, in her 123 Reg control panel when I unlocked the domain to change the nameservers, the nameservers that were already in there didn't look like 123 Reg ones, they were :-

    ns15.zoneedit.com
    ns2.zoneedit.com

I'm wondering if her old website was hosted elsewhere and whoever hosted it has already been in there and pointed the domain at their own "zonedit" nameservers?.

That said, surely if those nameservers are removed and my EUK ones are now in there, it would now show the new website now that I have uploaded the XHTML files to my addon domain here at EUK?.

I've been in touch with the client to ask about this and she said she didn't know why that was and can't remember how it all worked when she first had the old site put online. Apparently a "friend" did the site but as far as my client is aware, she can't remember this "friend" asking at any point for the 123 Reg log in details and explaining the nameservers would require to be changed to point to this "zonedit" nameserver/hosting, whoever they are?.

Also, I just set up an email account for the domain and sent a test email. Worked perfectly.

So I'm at a bit of a brick wall. My client cant tell me anything and her spanky new website cant be uploaded to replace her old out of date one.

Anyone shed any light on this?. I would have submitted a support ticket but I wasn't sure how to word it so thought it might be a good idea to post here first and give concise details of the situation.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance!.

**EDIT** : Scratch that, I just checked the website from another PC and the new site is up online.

Must be a browser cache issue on this machine I am using. Oops!!.

Thanks Jack. Well I "kinda" got it sorted.

It's been strange all day. Eventually after I rebooted my router, the new site came up and I thought "Cool, thats that fixed at last".

Then I checked the other 3 PC's and laptops. 1 was still showing the old website no matter what I did as far as deleting temp internet files and refreshing the page goes. The other laptop that had also been showing the old web site was now showing the new website and the other desktop PC was also showing the new website where it had also been showing the old website previously.

I went out for an hour or so and checked the website on another completely different PC on a completely different network and it was showing the new website.

Came back here and re-checked the same PC's as before. All change!!!.

The desktop that had been working ok and showing the new website was back to showing the old website. So are both the laptops and the other desktop!!.

I cannot fathom this out. The nameservers are pointing solely at EUK and the Addon domain in my cPanel file manager and Filezilla is showing just the new website XHTML files. I read that ISP's can sometimes be slow to update and that if you reboot your router it usually does the trick. This I did initially as I already said and it appeared to solve the problem but now I am back to square one!.

I assume everything is ok with the way I've done things as far as the nameserver changes go?. And its just a cache issue as I suspect?. The thing I can't understand is why it is ( seemingly? ) managing to update the cache' one minute and then 15 minutes later its back to the old cached files??!!!.

Am I just being too impatient and it is going to take longer to fully update?. It was only yesterday afternoon I did the nameserver changes.

One trick I find sometimes works is to load up Command Prompt in windows and type...
    ipconfig /flushdns
...also pressing [Ctrl] + [F5] to force a proper refresh can help in loading up the new site.
To err is human, but to really screw up you need a computer.

    Hi Gary,

I too doubt it being an ISP cache issue for sure

You may try the following from your local machine's command prompt : ipconfig /flushdns

    Or this : http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f15/cl...-machine-9215/

Or if you can PM me with the domain name, I'll check where exactly does it resolve to from several locations. One such Ping [Packet InterNet Groper] from multiple locations utility can be found here.

I believe I have found the problem.

It looks like its O2/*Be and their lacklustre efforts at updating their DNS servers. They are renowed for taking ages to do so.

Just to test the theory out, I adjusted my Network Properties over to using OpenDNS rather than automatically using O2's DNS servers.

Deleted temp internet files, restarted PC and tried the domain again. All 4 PC's now display the brand new website.

So it looks like it is my ISP - O2. I will give it a bit longer and then go back to their DNS servers to see if this is still the case but for now, OpenDNS appears to have cured my problem!!.

Thanks for the help guys, I will post back with any updates.
