    Default Next php update?

Are there any plans to update the php version currently in use?

5.2.6 has caused me the odd problem, notably with flash-based file uploads. I've tried on other hosts running 5.2.6, the majority of which I see similar issues with, although not all, so it may be a settings issue. The problem, is that I've never been able to pin down which settings may cause the problems I have. There's certainly nothing which leaps out.

I do know, however, that 5.2.8 causes me no such problems, nor does 5.2.9.

    Cool

    Hi there,

We will not be able to upgrade php from version 5.2.6 to 5.2.8 OR 5.2.9 in the shared environment.

We will need to migrate your account on the server with php 5.2.9 installed. Please send an email at support[@]eukhost.com if you wish to migrate the account on the server with php 5.2.9.

    Thanks Cristiano

To avoid downtime, is it possible to maintain the same nameserver details? If I remember correctly, the last time I migrated, I ended up needing to change the nameservers, which caused me some problems.

To minimize the downtime, we will change the A record for the domain to the new server IP. Once we change the A record for the domain to the new server IP, you need to update the Name servers.

    Thanks.

Just out of interest, is there any reason why you don't upgrade servers routinely?

    Hi,

There are certain compatibility problems if we upgrade php or mysql on shared servers. Some customers never upgrade their installed scripts / CMS and they face problems when we upgrade system softwares.

We take necessary steps to keep our servers secure even with older versions of php and mysql, but its not feasible to deal with Dozens of angry customers once the upgrade is performed on the server. We have tried such thing in past where customers didn't bother to upgrade their scripts / CMS even after 1 months advance intimation.

Agreed. Even I have been lax at updating from time to time. So I can definitely see where eUKhost come from on this point.

The good point to take from everything is however that certain servers are updated for you to use so hopefully that solution is good enough for your needs .

You will fault eUKhost if your website starts showing errors after upgrade. Customers will always blame the service provider if something goes wrong with their website.

Ha, I know what you mean

I, however, only ever blame eUKHost if I get server errors

The migration, by the way, went very smoothly, with almost no down time in between, so thanks to Cristiano and everybody involved.
