    Default Website speed issues

    Hi there

I am hoping I can get some assistance with an issue that has suddenly reared its head on our hosting.

We have been hosting with EUK for over a year and the speed of access to our website has always been fantastic. We have users from all over the world logging on and accessing forums and web based tools.

The last few days, the page browsing speed has gone from near instant to, in some cases, taking 30 to 40 seconds to display. This has been ongoing for a couple of days so I have discounted the possibility of it being peak load. I have also checked that we have not overrun our bandwidth.

Initially I thought this might be an over taxed MySQL server as this was the problem we had at our previous host, as our site is 99% mysql content driven(phpnuke etc). The pages however are being generated in less that a second according to the page, but are simply not being displayed.

We have made no configuration changes at all that I am aware of.

When I spoke to tech support via the chat app today, I was told it was a local problem. I accepted this at face value and left things for a few hours. I then started getting similar reports from my users in Holland, Turkey, Norway and Sweden, leading me to the clear conclusion that its not a problem local to me in the UK . added to the fact its been ongoing since Sunday suggests the problem is with the website/host not me or my users.

When I again spoke to tech support the guy simply linked the server loads stats at me and told me he could access my site in seconds. When I tried to explain that its not a local issue and is there anything he could suggest I could do or investigate he didn't answer me. I was left looking at my screen waiting for an answer which never came.

I found that to be quite rude to be honest.

Usually I find tech support to be very useful. In the past we have experienced random events where our website suddenly stops working and tech support have it back in no time. This time however I'm far from happy, I have about a hundred users complaining of poor access speeds from all over Europe and no idea when its going to be corrected.

If the problem is one of our causing (I dont see how it can be as we have changed nothing and the speed loss hit suddenly) then I will be happy to fix it, once I know where to start, however as stated, I dont see how it can be.

To add to the bizarreness, a coupe of minutes ago, the browsing speed went back to normal, ie super fast, then after about 4 or 5 page loads, went back to 30 seconds + again.

    1) Domain Name: providence-guild.net (cant post full url due to forum restrictions)

    2) Server Name and IP address: Manchester ?

    3) Description of problem: Extreme speed loss

    4) Anything you might have done which may have caused the problem: No

    5) Anything you have done already, to try and resolve the problem: I ran the database repair tool in-case the the primary database was damaged in some way. This had no effect, problem still evident. Spoke to tech-sup twice.

    6) Any additional information you think is relevant: Please See above

    Apologies for the lengthy post.

    Hi Lewis,

I am monitoring Manchester from last couple of hours, but there's nothing I could find on the server which should have created this problem. Please let me know if you continue to face same problem again in future.

I'm not a support tech but I just checked out the website right now and it's loading fine for me.

Also, a good way of testing your local speeds is to use a website such as Broadband Speedtest on ZDNet UK to check if there's anything temporarily wrong with your connection. I'd recommend running the test on a day when your connection seems to be working great and record that number, and then when you experience problems run it again and compare it to that figure to see if there is such a problem.

Local issue - that was an early thought which is why I left it a few hours to clear up.

I then ruled that out after speaking to users from 4 or 5 different countries, they too verified the issue issue, so something local to me in the Midlands is very unlikely to affect users in Norway, Sweden, Holland and Turkey . puzzling.

It all seems good now though
