    Default Catchall Workaround

    Hi,

After many frustrating hours I discovered that catchall / email forwarding was disabled on the windows servers and I need a workaround.

Basically I had had it setup on my VPS where all main received to the domain was set to a gmail account which took out all the spam and sent it back to a mailbox on the domain, this was then picked up by our exchange server and it all worked great.

I need to keep a similar system in place and I need to take this domain off the VPS.

So what are my options? I was wondering whether I could setup the domain on my linux shared hosting server and just use the linux side for the email?

OR am I better off setting up an email hosting account to do this?

(this first option is free as I already have a linux account but I'm not too bothered about the low cost involved in the email hosting either if that would be better or more reliable?).

Which way will be best and can you tell me roughly how to set it up? Would I use the forward to external mail server option in the shared windows account or add a DNS record pointing at the server that will handle the mail?

    Thanks

    Andrew

    Dear Andrew,

I have responded to your ticket XPC-942-43872 with confirmation that the catchall options have been disabled on both our windows and Linux shared plans. I have also sent you and explanation of the same.

    Thanks,
    Ray

In case it is of any use to anyone else in this position.......

I had a few emails back and forth with Ray yesterday and there isn't a totally straight forward way to get around this issue. I have used Eukhost for many years and have been very happy with the service and support and I totally understand their reasons for disabling the 'catchall' function.

However, in my case there was a genuine reason for needing it to work so I ended up setting up an email hosting account with another provider and altering the DNS entry in the Eukhost control panel to point mail.domain.co.uk at the external mail server. It all went very smoothly and the email is back up and running now with the external mail server, the website is still hosted on Eukhost and will stay there

Thanks for your advise and assistance on this Ray
