    Default changing email passwords

    hi peoples,

here's an interesting one for you. I don't know how many of you use webmail (or if any users of your sites do) but I found out on Monday that although there is an option to change your password through webmail..it doesn't work. and the ONLY way to change an email password is to do it in the control panel.

so, if you have any sites for which you have users who have an email account and they want to change their email password, they will have to give it to you to change in the control panel....top security that huh? I needed to change a couple of passwords, and in order to do it, the people had to tell me what passwords they wanted!!

firstly..how stupid is that...and secondly, why is there an option to change passwords in webmail if they know it doesn't work?

    Hello Alistair ,

    Long time no see

The password changing mechanism from within webmail is faulty. hence it has been disabled by recommendations from the control panel vendor and keeping in mind security.

Now there is an alternative to change the password following these steps, Have your users login to the control panel using their email address and not your main user. If they login with their email user names they are given the email account preference which includes the ability to change the passwords, update their spam settings etc. Personally I do not think this is a stupid way of doing this. This is providing you with access to the email account without any security issues.

    username - email@domainname.com
    passwod - email account password

    Thanks,
    Ray
