Default Help Setting Up All Mail Forwarding

    Hi eUkHost,

I would like to have all email sent to <anything>@mydomain.com forwarded to my hotmail account.

I have logged into Plesk and set the following...

under "MyDomain" > "Mail" > "Preferences"
changed "Mail to Nonexistant user" to "Catch to Address" with my email address.

However when I attempt to send an email to <somthing>@mydomain.com I receieve a delivery failure.

    Can anyone help?

Note: I don't have any standard mail accounts set up for the domain, I want ALL mail forwarded.

    Thanks in advance.

Catch-all feature has been disabled on all our Windows shared hosting servers to maintain smooth flowing of emails. We faced lots of problems in the past by enabling catchall, as it opens the server to accept all mails including spams, invalid mails etc.

Generally users use Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL address to set catchall email accounts. These free mail providers have their strong policies & they immediately block IP address of the email server if they receive spam/bulk mails which in turn all other users on same server suffer.

This catch-all email feature is still available on our cPanel shared hosting plans as cPanel uses Exim & it's one of the best mail servers/MTA's which easily control Dictionary attacks, incoming connections etc. on Linux servers.

This is going to cause me very serious problems. I have many different email addresses out in the wild not all of which I remember, the only way I am able to receive this mail is to use a catch all mail forwarding facility which I thought was a standard feature of any hosting package.

What solution can you suggest for me to rectify this problem? Am I able to have all mail delivered to a mailbox on my server? Am I able to receive an email notifying me of failed message delivery, then I can set up the appropriate account when I receive said email?

Is the "Redirect to external mail server with IP address" also disabled?

Also, I would suggest is that the Plesk option is removed to avoid confusion or at the very least a message is put beside indicating that you've have removed the feature with a link to the reasons you have given above.

Creating individual mailboxes for each & every mail account would be a solution to this problem when hosting within a Windows shared hosting environment. If this isnt possible/feasible, then I'd like to suggest you to upgrade the plan to a VPS where you get complete freedom to have the catch-all feature & any other restrictions lifted off. Yes, you should receive an email delivery failure notice [Mailbox not found] in case of any mail bounces.

Nope, this option isn't disabled on our servers.

Changing/customising the control panel interface to disable the catch-all isn't possible. We'll make sure to include a short note of this in the welcome email so that clients are made aware of this email policy.
