    Default Own Mail Server

I'm trying to setup MailEnable as an E-Mail Server on a server in my office.

I can get everything to work except when I send mail to the eUKHosts Servers for relaying I am getting the following error back.

MailEnable: Message could not be delivered to some recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

    Recipient: [SMTP:ME@OTHERDOMAIN.co.uk]
Reason: Remote SMTP Server Returned: 554 This server requires PTR for unauthenticated connections.

    To: "'My OTHER ADDRESS'" <ME@OTHERDOMAIN.co.uk>

Can I use SmartHosts or some other method to send mail out from my server and how do I set the authentication for the send.

    Hello Peter,

The problem is not with relay or authentication between the server, it is the security on eUKhost mail server that is not accepting emails from your local MailEnable server.

Just make sure that you have reverse DNS setup for the IP address of your mail server. Normally this should be done by the provider of your IP. If you do not fix this problem then many other email providers such as AOL, Yahoo, BT, etc.. will also reject emails from your local mail server.

    Hi Martin,

This I understand but I am looking at setting up the server on a domain and testing then moving to our main domain later and would like to not change the reverse DNS twice.

Is it possible to setup MailEnable to use the eUKHosts servers as a SmartHost, removing to reverse DNS issue with other providers and our multiple outgoing IPs (Main + Backup)

SmartHost will require either of these 2 settings:

    1. The IP address of your mail server will be required to be added as trusted IP address on our Mail Server.

    OR

    2. You will need an appropriate account to authenticate and send emails.

It would not be possible to enable any of these settings on our shared server, I am afraid, as any untrusted activity on your local mail server will directly or indirectly affect our mail server and it will make difficult for us to diagnose the problem.

You can try to use an email address on our server to authenticate but I highly doubt that it will work in the desired way.

Let us know if you need any more help.
