Default How does network backup storage works ?

I am looking for some information about Network Backup Storage. Does anyone know how this backup storage works ? Do I need the same size storage device for storing backups as my server hard drives ?

Basically, all depends on what you wish to backup. My own dedicated server holds a second hard drive devoted only for storing backups. Since, my backup size is low I have attached a single hard drive only. Also, for further protection, I use offsite backup plan to store all my mysql databases which is stored in a different data center. The offsite backup uses the Rsync technology to make sure only the changed files are copied to the offsite server.

I assume you are referring to network-attached storage (NAS). Network-attached storage (NAS) device is a server which has its usage restricted to only file sharing. With a NAS device, storage is not an integral part of the server. When NAS is used, the server handles all of the processing of data while NAS device delivers that data to the user. A NAS device does not need to be located within the server but can exist anywhere in a LAN.

Generally, the storage device for storing back-ups should not be as big as the server's hard drive. In my opinion, regardless of whether you do back-ups on the server, you should always use an offsite backup plan to store all your databases. That's what I always do with all my sites.
