Default OpenSSH and FTP not working on Ubuntu Server

A few days back I have got the lastest Ubuntu Server 10.10 edition installed, and it is connected to the Internet, running the latest Apache version. But, when I tries to access the SSH or FTP via my personal laptop, a password is asked by SSH, and when I enter the password, it does not perform any action and when accessing the FTP, it gives out the following error:

Sorry could not display all the contents of "/ on [my-ip]": DBus error

Yes, physically, I am able to have access to the server. What could be the issue with it?

Are you sure that the password you are entering is perfect ?

I think the password you are entering isn't correct due to which you are facing this problem. You can contact your hosting provider and ask if the password you are entering is correct.
