Confused by SSL Certificate Options

I'm thinking of buying an SSL certificate for one or two of my domains.

You offer different types of certificate ranging from £25 to £350, but I couldn't find any explanation of the benefits of each type. Could you provide a description of the various options please or point me to where I can find the information to help me choose and setting up a server

Do the prices include the necessary dedicated IP address?

Thanks for the quick reply! Seems like SBS instant is the one for me.

I have follow up question regarding how SSL works with RubyOnRails.

I am running my app on islander using the RubyOnRails cPanel section. This creates a server process on a particular port. e.g. "http://maindomain.com:12069."

Also in the RubyOnRails cPanel section I set up a Rewrite URL,

e.g. "http://addondomain.com" --> "http://maindomain.com:12069"

Do I need a separate SSL certificate for each domain while setting up a server?

SBS Instant certificate should do the job for you. You won't need a separate SSL for the re-written URL.

It depends, what domain you would like to called by SSL.
For e.g. If you are processing online transactions through your main domin then you should go for ssl on main domain else on addon domain.

Only 2 of our SSL Certificates come with Site Seal. I don't see any need for Site Seal as we never display site seal on our website. You will advertise the SSL Certificate on your website if you display the Site Seal.

No problem. As Mark said, that is correct. And I also agree with Mark on his other point. eUKhost does not display Site Seal but you still do business with them.

From my point of view (and that being for this example the point of view of a customer rather than a webmaster) I always check the address bar for https:// and when it lights up green to check security and give me piece of mind - if I'm still unsure I have a look at the certificate.

Logos and other seals are easy to forge and don't give me anywhere near as much piece of mind that seeing the things I mentioned above. You have to remember that things have moved a lot in the web world since the beggining of online transactions and even your standard non technical web user knows to look out for the https:// or some other indication by their browser that the connection is encrypted.

So all in all i wouldn't worry to much about not having Site Seal .

I can appreciate both your points on that , and it also doesnt bother me aslong as I see the https://, padlock, etc when purchasing, but it was more for customers to help give them piece of mind for when on an ecommerce (low/medium volume of transactions) based website.

Not a problem tho, it turns out the SBS certificates wouldnt have been suitable in the end anyway as I was looking for google checkout compatability, so a Rapid SSL is what ill have to use.

We do offer Rapid SSL Certificate as well. We charge £39 per year for Rapid SSL Certificate.

They have increased their Prices few months back which forced us promote the SBS Certificates which are cheap.

There is absolutely nothing to stop you creating your own seal or guarentee of authenticity. In reality, this is no different to their seal - they both mean as much (or as little) as each other but if you think it'll give your customers more faith and reassurance then you can try it .

Which is very good for us as customers. I like how recently a lot of companies have reduced there VAT by 2.5% only to put the product price up 2.5% and pocket the saving for themselves!
