    Default IRC on servers

Do you allow IRC on your servers ? Can I have private IRC and public IRC on the servers ? If yes, will the support department help me to install IRC on your servers or I will have to do it on my own ?

I'm sure it's allowed on dedicated servers but most likely not on shared servers such as VPS / Semi-Dedicated

IRC, Public Proxies & Torrents is typically forbidden on our network due to the network abuse/attacks they can generate quite unintentionally of the owner. Because IRC connections are usually unencrypted and typically span long time periods, they are an attractive striking target for malicious crackers. Because of this, careful network security policy is put into practice to ensure that an IRC network, when run, is not vulnerable to an attack such as an IRC takeover war.

IRC networks may also k-line or g-line users or networks that have a destructive effect.. IRC served as an early laboratory for many kinds of Internet attacks, such as using fake ICMP unreachable messages to break TCP-based IRC connections (eg: nuking) to annoy users or facilitate takeovers.

Users are prohibited from violating or attempting to violate the security policies implemented by us which finally benefit all

Perhaps you should go through "3. Banned Content" section in our Terms and Conditions located at eUKhost - UK Web Hosting ::: Terms Of Service

This would provide you information on which services are forbidden on our network.

EUKhost do not support any such activities you will need to search a new host for your IRC application. We always try our best to keep our network clean and protected.

Okay, I understand that you do not allow IRC on servers. But don't you allow Private IRC on servers ? I think private IRC is used by a limited number of people. What do you think ?

Thank you for your quick reply Ryan. I have a doubt in my mind. I do understand that public IRC is not safe but what about private IRC ? I mean, is IRC safe if I want to use it in my office for internal communication ? Will I have some problems if I use private IRC in my office ?

Would you not just use an IM program or use an IRC client and make the channel private ?

You can do that as no one will be able to catch your private IRC channel as long as it remains private. If someone complains about it then one needs to remove it from their server.

    Both are disallowed.

irc.opennap.net set up a chan there
Password protect it and I promise we wont care if its private.

BTW, we have both Chanserv and Nickserv there.

The bottom line is that both Private and Public IRC are not allowed on the servers.
