Windows Hosting or VPS?
I am looking at Platinum Windows Hosting and hoping that this will suffice.
I have a small number of websites to host, including one already on DotNetNuke, one asp over MSSQL, others asp over Access and others to come that will be in C# .net
One site is using SimpleChart for dynamic creation of jpg graphs for which I have a single server licence.
Is it possible to use SQL Server Management Studio to SQL databases on your server?
Will Platinum give me what I need or do I have to look at VPS?
Thanks

A Windows Platinum package would be good to start at & you can later on upgrade/migrate over to a VPS/Semi-Dedicated/Dedicated server whenever needed.
We do not provide SimpleChart on our shared hosting servers. But we do provide ASPJpeg server component on our shared hosting servers, which will help your ASP or ASP.NET applications with all their image-management needs. With AspJpeg, you can create high-quality thumbnails, logo-stamp photographs, extract metadata information from images, crop, enhance, rotate, convert, etc.Yes, you'd be able to connect to the SQL database using SQL Server Management Studio on either of the packages, Windows Platinum or a Windows VPS.I'm not sure if ASPJpeg might serve/fulfill the same purpose as SimpleChart does, but in case it doesn't you'd need to go with a Windows VPS package, where you'd have the freedom to install any such applications.

VPS security
Hi Rock
Thanks for the info. I have checked out ASPJpeg and it does not provide the functionality of SimpleChart. I extract data sets from the database and fire them at SimpleChart, which creates Pie Charts, Line Graphs and Bar Graphs on the fly from the data.
If I go for a VPS, do I then have to secure it myself with firewall and ant-virus software? If so, do you provide any help or recommendations?
Also, is email for addresses on my domain names then my responsibility in terms of Spam rejection as well?
Thanks

You're welcome, hope you had a good weekend
Oh, I had no idea on differentiating between these two products;SimpleChart & ASPJpeg; & their respective roles/feature, etc. I did hear of Microsoft Chart Controls for .NET Framework earlier, but I've never been a developer in my life
We'd definitely help you with configuring the Windows firewall (as per your requirements) & other necessary security measures meant to be taken on the Windows VPS. Please don't worry about that security part
If you go for a VPS with Plesk control panel installed for better & ease of hosting management, it's PowerPack module comes with an inbuilt SpamAssassin [Anti-Spam feature] for email services & with the ability of managing MSSQL databases from the control panel itself.
Please feel free to ask any further questions or doubts you have. We'd be glad answering them for you..

Chart Control
Thanks for that; the Chart Control suggestion is a good one, but unfortunately the site is an old one in asp not in .net so I would have to re-write it all.
I will give it some thought and come back to you.
Thanks
