    Default Why Host Here?

I've always hosted in the US because I was living there, but now I've moved back to blighty. I have yet to move my sites, and am unsure whether to.

Other than the obvious-having tech support on the right time for me to call, what would be the benefit? There really isn't any geographic targeting for the website, and I just read elsewhere whilst browsing this forum that any delay would be unnoticeable.

Great support, and you will know how much you are going to be paying each month - if you're paying a US host in GBP then the amount that you are paying will vary each month.

I do apologise if that appeared to be a question directly aimed at EUK, it was rather more general in truth and was a geographical question.

Still the dollar rate point was interesting-I hadn't thought of that because for me it isn't an issue as I pay in dollars from a US based account.

USD <=> GBP rate will change in next 6 - 12 months and GBP is expected to improve soon. You will need to check how much difference it will make if 1 GBP becomes equivalent to 1.8 USD .

Also worth considering data access laws in the various countries, including whether the police are likely to engage with an ISP before removing (someone else's) servers to avoid outages of other customers.

I think that if you are looking for UK Hosting then it would be a normal choice. I know of only a couple, maybe a handful at the most, companies in the UK which are hosting related. It seems this is a slower market and you always hear about the big places like Go Daddy and the such, but if you are local and you want local, then why not?

To answer your question "why host here?" with respect to physical location of the server, I would say that if you want traffic from the UK then it is always better to consider the UK based server. This will help you to rank higher in Google.co.uk and other UK search engines. IMO, physical server location has a significant impact on your ability to rank in the regional search engines. It is said that physical location of the server plays an important role when it comes for the appearance in an SEs

Right said "It is said that physical location of the server plays an important role when it comes for the appearance in an SEs"

I have a site hosted in African data center. I get good traffic from different SEs belonging to Africa. Now, I willing to target traffic from the UK. So, just wondering where shall I host my site and thus searching for the best hosting provider in the UK.

How would you go about checking or finding out this information? I genuinely would not have considered this as a factor, because with my own sites being so squeaky clean I guess I didn't think of the fact that the misdeeds of others could hurt me.

A very good point. This is one of the topics that differs from territory to territory. In the UK ISPs are still independent of any police action I believe.
