Thumbs up Found this free Sitemap tool.

After searching for a Google site map tool for quite a while today i found this. I've used it today and had to make 2 or 3 tiny corrections to the .xml file before submitting it to google, Other than that its a really simple way of creating site maps with minimal effort and its free. Hope you guys find it useful, Heres the list of features it has already...

    - Include only if URL contains field - available
    - Exclude URLs containing field - available
    - URL variables to parse out - only one variable is supported as of now
    - Save / Load Form's settings
    - Save / Load Queue file
    - Create Google Sitemap XML file
    - See the Queue list while processing
    - Thread Priority can be set while script is running
    - Show details of processing as how many unique urls were parse out, which one is being processed...
    - Shows current version in real time

    Thanks for that .

I've always been advised against site maps as apparently they are a spammers and hackers dream.... has anyone get anything to add to this?

I've heard good and bad about them, But that seems to be the same with most things. I figure i might as well give them a chance and find out for myself

Cheers for the info, I'll look into that one.

I currently use GSiteCrawler (which is free) - Google Sitemap Generator for Windows :: GSiteCrawler

Interesting - thanks for the link Paul. I still think however I am against sitemaps unless someone can prove that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages substantially .

There aren't any disadvantages to be honest. You shouldn't be concerned about releasing URL's in sitemaps to hackers (unless of course they're private but then they shouldn't be in the sitemap to begin with).

Not having a sitemap simply because of the fear of hackers is very much like hiding your SSID on a wireless internet connection (it's pointless). If someone unethical wanted to find your URL's (or in the same respect, find out the hidden SSID of your wireless internet connection), then they quite easily can.

It's like hacker protection against people who don't know how to hack, but no hacker protection against the actual hackers. It's pointless.

Sitemaps are great for SEO, and will boost you right up in the search engines if you use them correctly. At the end of the day, one of your top priorities should be getting your website(s) as high up in the search engines as possible, with the most keyword span possible.

I was more thinking spammers rather than hackers...

Sitemap is a way, where Web site specifies what pages within the site should be indexed and what new content is been added to your site. In simple words, it is a medium used to convey information between the search engine and the site.

Sitemaps are particularly helpful if your site is having dynamic content, pages that aren't easily discovered by Googlebot during the crawl process - for example, pages featuring rich AJAX or Flash, your site is new and has few links to it, your site has a large archive of content pages that are not well linked to each other, or are not linked at all.
