Domain name renewal in 4 days - Wrong time to migrate to eUK?
I'm in the process of migrating some sites to eUKhost from 1&1.
It's not an easy process, mainly because of 1&1's slow responses to questions and the poor usability of their FAQ, and it's also my first hosting move.
My dilemma is that one of my domains is up for renewal in 4 days time (15th October), and I fear that if I transfer before, or very close to the expiration date, I might just lose the domain name altogether because of 1&1 dragging their feet.
They are not famous for letting customers go easily or quickly.
I've had this domain for 10 years, which makes me a bit risk-averse!
Should I put my migration on hold until the 16th?
I'll migrate all the other domains without worries.

Exactly, that's the way we highly recommend going about with it, when it comes to domain transfers. It is unwise to attempt a transfer immediately before it expires.
Let's say if your domain has met all the necessary requirements, then it can take as short as 3 business days for the transfer to complete. However, this is not a guarantee that it will happen to your domain transfer all the time. It also depends on your registrar's response to our transfer request. If they failed to respond the process, it will be something beyond our control. This creates an unnecessary risk for your domain.
To avoid this, users should either transfer well before the expiration date or renew the domain before attempting the transfer.
Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions - please feel free to ask. Thanks!
Jennifer.

Before you proceed with domain migration request do check if your current domain registrar charge you for moving domains away from them, there are few domain registrar who use such lame trick for preventing you from taking such step

Thanks Jennifer and Harry for validating my unease about migrating at this pivotal time.
I'll certainly double check the possibility of being charged to leave, too! Behind all this impersonal technology there are human hearts and minds at work; most of them kind and well meaning, but not all....Last edited by Satoriguru; 12-10-2009 at 09:16. Reason: punctuation

Hi,
I would suggest you to get your domain renewed from 1&1 and then initiate transfer request through us. We will charge £6 for the transfer, but we will renew your domain for another year which will set the next renewal date for your domain on 15th October 2011.
Your website will continue to work even if 1&1 delays transfer of your domain name.
