Any individual, Company or Organisation based in the European Union can register a .eu domain name.
In ENOM an EU domain has to be set to auto-renew for renewal. Auto-renew needs to be actived within 30 days prior the renewal date. If they are left until the day of expiration, they will enter a quarantine status. Names are put into quarantine for 40 days. During the quarantine period, websites or email address attached to the names no longer work. Once domains passes quarantine period, they are released and available for registration.
Different registrars have different procedures for renewing /expiring domain names.
There are two steps for the transfer of .eu domain :
Transfer : If you wish to move the management of your .eu domain name from one registrar to another.
EURid, the EU central registry, will send a confirmation email to the registrant email address as listed in whois. You will have to approve transfer request within 14 days else the request will expire. It may take 24 days to transfer the domain from one registrar to another.
Trade : If you wish to transfer the ownership of .eu domain to other people or organisations.
The procedure is same as transfer a domain however in this case, EU registry sends confirmation email to the old owner and new owner of the domain. It is necessary that both owners needs to approve the trade else it will expire.
When your transfer completes, your domain expiration is extended 1 year from the transfer completion date and not from the current expiration date that is if you have 3 months left on your domain, after the transfer you will have 1 year left, not 1 year and 3 months.
