Need single SSL cert for imaps ?

Hi,

Slowly ramping up on my VPS knolwedge

Here is a question for you guys - If i want to use secure imap and smtp, do I need to purchase a SSL certificate for my vps account ?

Currently I get the untrusted dialog from outlook if I try and use SSL, so I'm guessing I would need to buy a certificate - would that mean that I get another IP address too ?

Hello,

Currently the SSL used by IMAP & SMTP is the shared self signed SSL generated by the server, & it will always give a warning that is is not trusted. If you dont want such warning, you will have to purchase a private SSL certificate for your VPS hostname & will have to use the hostname of the VPS as the IMAP & SMTP mailserver in your outlook.
