    Default VPS Advice Required

I am looking after an ASP.NET application that I have developed for one of my friend's company that handles job logging for them. It's reached a point where it's outgrown shared hosting so now I am looking around for a proper solution.

I'm not so good with the server things so am looking for some good advice as to what I should be looking for. I think that VPS would be a good solution for what I am looking for but I am happy to be corrected.

At present, there are only about 6 people using the system at any one time. It's a .NET application (v2.0) with a SQL Server DB at the back end (version 2005 or above). It's outgrown the 50Mb of SSL space it currently uses and I could estimate the HD size the application and related documents would need, but how much extra needs to be allowed for OS/Application installation, etc.

With reference to manage the server, as I've said, I'm not that well up but probably have enough to get by. I know there are fully managed solutions available but these might be slightly cost-prohibitive - does a middle solution exist whereby OS patches etc are installed by the provider?

Any advice on the basic specs I should be looking out for with the new hosting would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Based upon your needs, I will highly recommend going for a VPS.

Our VPS Service provides an ideal environment for those sites that are not well suited for or have "outgrown" Shared Hosting.

All eUKhost Virtual Private Servers are fully managed at no extra cost. This includes security monitoring, installing, compiling and maintaining the standard server application/software package, operating system and server software support, proactive security patches and updates, firewall configurations/tweaks, and more.

ASP.NET & the required SQL version will be installed on your VPS. You can take a look at our Windows VPS Plans here - UK Windows VPS Hosting | MS SQL ASP.NET VPS | Plesk Virtual Private Servers

You can select a VPS Plan based on the amount of Disk Space, Bandwidth and RAM your websites/server will need. Although, upgrades to the next higher plans can be done any time.

Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions - please feel free to ask.

    Thanks!

A Windows VPS would be an ideal solution for you as you will get RDP administrator access with your Windows VPS and hence you will be able install any application on your Windows VPS

    Thanks for the reply.

I'll post in the request are once I've narrowed down a bit exactly what I want.

Currently it's hosted on a Business Shared Hosting plan. I can't complain about that so far, but with only 50Mb of SSL space we need to upgrade. Scheduled backups are becoming more important now as well rather than the more ad-hoc approach we are currently taking.

The Windows VPS option sounds like it may be viable. One of my friend suggested me "semi-managed" option which is sometimes cheaper and might be more suitable, I suppose the areas I'm most in need of help with are the processor and memory I should be aiming for.

You can definitely consider our Windows semi-dedicated server as you will get more resources with a Windows semi-dedicated server in comparison to a Windows VPS.

You can check the specifications and features of the Windows semi-dedicated server we offer through the below link:

Semi Dedicated Servers UK | Linux - Windows UK Server Hosting

When it comes to scheduled backups, you can consider our backup plans for this purpose. If you consider our backup plans, our VPS support department can configure hourly, daily or weekly backups for you as per your requirements. You can check the backup plans we offer through the below link:

Offsite Backup Service | Backup Solutions | Remote Data Backups

Please feel free to post if you need any further assistance
