hosting a .uk.com domain

Would there be any problems/difficulties in hosting a .uk.com domain on my current server? I've never really dealt with these domain-names before but I've heard some hosts don't support them.

There is no problem at all. You can host a .uk.com domain. They are a bit more pricey than the regular domains though.

Thanks for the reply - it would be a domain transfer or a nameserver change at their registrars end - which in itself is a rigmarole. I wouldn't ever choose to have such a domain personally.

I was always scared of .uk.com domains, I have no idea why. but if your site is UK-related, the domain really holds a bit of authority. More than a .net, for instance.

I understood that uk.com addresses are actually .com addresses. Someone bought UK.com a long time ago and sells subdomains. www.subdomain.uk.com

I would think it is very unlikely any government sites use uk.com - i-uk.com is not an example of this! I see a hyphen not a dot?

uk.com is therefore not an official top level domain (TLD)! The problem that some people have with this is that you have a single point of failure. They claim that it is up to the company that runs this to route all those subdomains to the correct host and that if their servers are down then your site goes down. If the company goes out of business then someone else may come and buy uk.com off them and will have no obligation to support all the existing sub domains?

Of course Im sure there is not reason to worry in reality and these domains are very reliable - I have no reason to think otherwise! But I would do my own research first to understand exactly what I am buying into before building a business around a .uk.com address.

That's pretty nice analysis What I see .uk.com or any country code TLDs has regional significance, if anyone intended to produce geographically relevant content serving queries originating from specific country such domains are worth to use especially in absense of top-level domain.

Thats what I thought. So jezza - that means no one owns UK.com so therefore it is perfectly safe to buy such a domain .
